I have UPC TV & broadband and tired of paying through the nose for TV I never watch!
Anyone recommend other options please?
I know nothing at all about set top boxs, satellites, saorview etc etc so any advice would be v hepful

Get a freesat dish and an ariel and a decoder and you will have all the channels for free. Bar sports subscription channels. There's a company called zintec in tallagh near the superstore and I got all my stuff off them cost about â¬600 for a 4 bed house. So 4 decoders etc. That was ten yrs ago and it's working fine but needs upgrade now. New tvs now have decoders built in and saorview so just need to wire it up. It's dead easy
I have a freesat system Colm. We were lucky, the previous tenant left a dish up on the chimney so had to just buy a set top box. Got one 2nd hand off adverts for €60, then bought a saorview ariel kit for about €25. Make sure the set top box u buy is a combo box ie takes sat input and ariel input. It's perfect and handy enough to set up even if u have to hang the dish yourself. We cancelled all upc except broadband and phone so cut the bill from nearly €100/month down to €40. Couldn't live without broadband. So with freesat, saorview (approx 150 channels) and Netflix we have as much content as we need. Won't bother u but loads of kids stuff too between the Netflix and freesat. Do it you won't look back
This is interesting. Myself and Alf are the same. e90 a month to watch Dora the Explorer 24/7. We don't really watch tv so its a waste of money. I find the whole thing a bit overwhelming when people start talking about freesat and combo boxes etc and I freak out and just stick with what we have!

Same boat, Chuggington and Doc McStuffins reruns are about all I get, but CBA to swap boxes etc. Must look into it though, that could be bike money :)
Alfie is right, just keep broadband and you can hook up an android box to the tv too although if you have an android tablet you can cast it from the tab to the tv with a Chromecast! Now before the technophobes get themselves in a tizzy over all this I'm a bit of a technophobe myself and I was able to set it all up. Gary and Caroline on the freesat/saorview system alone you have about 8 kids channels incl rtejr, ceebeebies, Citv etc then with Netflix you have ALL your favourites! Dora, umizoomies, chugington and the like so you and your kids will be delirah with that! Gary in terms of the CBA; UPC say approx. €90/month or €1092 pa cut that back to BB only at say €40 or €480 pa satellite set up with 2 boxes and saorview approx €250-300 getting someone else to do it, cheaper if you do it yourself and an android box say €120 after year 1 you will have saved yourself nearly €200! That includes all your set up so 2nd year will be more again! If only the Greeks would've listened to me maybe they wouldn't be in the position they are now!!! WOW that escalated quickly!
