Have a few questions for the DH folk:

How many NPS races count toward the league result?
In order to practice for the race on a Sunday you obviously have to head down on the Sat or possibly the Fri, so for a weekend race, how much does it cost? travel, food, race, beer etc....?

Blatherskite!!! I'm not going back to Djouce until Robin does something about all that mud. Yesterday I was carrying a baby up a mountain, Sunday was a spin you would approve of, big mountain, fast trails, big rocks, danger! and gale force winds.

i think you drop your one worst result if you do all the races.

you can head down on the Sunday and race if you want but practice is always a good idea. With dunmanway I went do on friday night. hostel cost €18 for the one night. camped at the track on sat and then b&b on sunday. usually id drive both days but dunmanway and killarney are a bit too far to not stay.
In total I think I paid 200 over the weekend (sign on and beers diesel etc). normally it wouldn't be that much but it was a 3 day weekend.

car pooling is always good for these trips too since you get the craic straight away.

I did about 7 runs on sat and 5 on sunday....would have been more on sat but I had some mechanicals that slowed me down.

It aint cheap so....especially if you turn up and the track is crap....or does this ever happen? are all the DH races/tracks built to a standard that it's worth the €200 for a weekends racing?

I guess what Im asking is....you guys pay allot more to race compared to XC races. Is the extra money worth it? Im thinkin its a fairly obvious question! I know I'd pay 2-3 times my current sign on fee if I was guaranteed a decent course (something with a bit of work/thought put into it), lap times, fast results and a cuppa joe afterwards

its not usually that expensive. you get uplifts all day and live timing professionally run. with all other races bar killarney it will only cost me the sign on which is €50 and the diesel. I think the sign on cost is worth it due to the good facilities but you do get some tracks that aren't worth it. I haven't raced a track like that in 2 years though.
A good comparison is the NPS to the winter league..tracks are easier/flatter, less facilities (toilets and all that) (sugar loaf was and exception to this. It was steep enough, fast and really good fun), no uplifts and sign is €30.
so basically I think its better to invest in a well run race than something run half arsed.

I still cant believe theres no sports results from carlingford, why do they think all of those people signed on...I would very very angry.

The racing thing isn't cheap cork was an expensive one because of the session on sunday night and the extra night in the bnb.

The race entry is reasonable value for what you get. I usually only get the sundays and have no problem paying the 50 for my race on the sunday. Compared to the sorrento race which i thought was the biggest rip off ever especially for sports. Everyone in dh gets the same treatment as far as the course goes regardless of what category your in.

You can do a DH race weekend on the cheep which would be about €100 for the whole weekend but that's means bringing food with you and getting cheep accommodation or a van and not a drive to Kerry or west cork. Rostrevor is a short trip and is only a 2 day thing. As for the race entry it's well worth it if your riding the 2 full days with up lifts and all the race trimmings, it works out around the same per day as an XC race which is amazing considering the costs of running a Dh race it's definitely worth it. Come up to Rostrevor and you’ll see the craic of Dh racing.

Yeh, that pretty much confirms what I thought and I would be of the same opinion in regard to XC races. Id prefer to pay €50 sign on and get a good course & "race trimmings" as opposed to paying €20 for a mediocre course and non-existent race trimmings.

The craic on those road trips - priceless.
