Id like to build a foam pit, I've done a bit of research on google etc.. and it seem fairly straight forward enough.
I have a place, to put it at the back of a house deep in the northside. I could build a lauch run from the back of the house.
I could also build jumps there. I would like to build it, but getting the foam is the problem, Im willing to spend up to 600 on parts and stuff.
Only thing is the foam is expensive, what I'd like to do is get old memory foam matresses and cut them into cubes.
I could go to upholsterers and get strips of foam but I need thick stuff, Ive seen some online and all they did was put layers of foam on top of each other with is basically just a big bed. I need to make cubes so theres a mix of air and foam.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas where id get a load of old memory bed matresses?
Any ideas, please keep the comments positive, its easy for people to be negative about this stuff. But believe me im very eager to do this., I have the resources and not a 15 year old kid with dream.
Of course all you epic heads that built the pump track and stuff in annes would be welcome if I built it!
Why not fill it with crocodiles, or spiders, I reckon you'd learn a lot quicker that way. Sorry, I know you are looking for sensible answers but you did ask on EPICmtb.
from my experience of foam pits i have this to say;
if you have never ridden a foam pit before then you probably dont realise how $hite they are. foam pits are good if you want to learn crazy circus tricks, like backflip tailwhips and frontflips and the like, but they are completly rubbish for everything else. You will get hurt riding one. Unless you know what your getting yourself into, dont waste your time.
I watched a friend of mine break her clavacle and sternum and dislocate her shoulder doing a summersault twist into a foam pit. We were 11 and fully supervised by our gymnastics coaches. Foampits are fun, but they don't make you invinsible.
I have thought about building one, but the foam is the expensive bit. I have a 26ft long jump box (6ft high, 8 ft wide). got the plans online, and it works sweet. I can use the ramp separate, so all I need is the foam. I kinda like skips idea of straw. might be a good idea for a bbq session. Hmmmmmm
you could try getting sheets of king span which is 4ft by 8ft and cutting them up into blocks id say that would be the cheapest way and it would still be foam, if ya need any advice on building it feel free to ask ima chippy if it helps
