Da Cooley Thriller returns to the Cooley Mountains once again on Saturday 10th September, 2022.
** Further details to follow together with online registration **
Sign on at Foy Centre at 7pm until 8pm on Friday evening 9th Sept. and from 7.30am on Saturday morning in Carlingford, the race is starting and finishing in the village.
Please come early to sign-on on Saturday as it will be busy !!
The Categories are as follows – 1st/2nd/3rd in the following :-
Open Female,
Sport Females,
Female Vet (40+)
Open Male;
Expert (20-39),
Vets (40-49),
Super Vets (50-59),
Male Vintage Vet (60+)
Sport Male (open);
Sport Male Vets (40+)
The shorter sport/fun !! 21k course, will be 1st/2nd/3rd Male/Female/Junior (U16)
One bike to be used for the whole duration of the race.
****NO BIKE CHANGE DURING RACE****
(Please state your age and category at Finish Line)
Start 10am (VERY SHARP) village centre. (Neutral through the village to the start/finish line above the village.
There will be 2k uphill minor road above Carlingford to the open mountain. Then uphill single track to the saddle overlooking Carlingford to spread the riders out a bit before more single track (5k) to the Windy Gap. Then it will be 5k on the road climb to the ‘Mast’ .
The rest is ‘single track’ !!
Feed Stations
There will be 3 feed stations available en route at approximately 19km, 26km and 43km. Each feed station will aim to provide;
Water
Energy Drink
Snack foods such as bananas, cake bars etc
The feed stations will also allow access to a track pump, basic tools, lubricants. The food and support provided by these feed stations should not be a riders only form of support and each rider should aim to carry enough food and spares to complete the event. A drop bag may be submitted for transfer to the 26km feed station. A bag must be clearly marked with rider name. The organisers accept no responsibility for return of these drop bags so please do not include anything you expect returned.
** THREE BOTTLE DROPS **
The First bottle drop/feed station is at ‘the Mast’ (19k approx.) and the second at Ballymakellet (26k approx.) and the THIRD at the ‘windy gap’ (approx. 43k). (bottles will be returned to the Foy Centre from the Mast at noon, bottles from second/third feed will be returned to the Foy at 3.30ish. , when we expect the final rider to pass through.
Recommended Kit:-
Mobile phone
Food for the duration of the event
Ability to carry at least 1.5 litres of water
Bike any off-road capable bike in good working order can be used.
Spare long sleeve base layer and socks.
Spare disc pads
Spare inner tubes
Multitool
Pump, it is recommended a standard pump be carried to supplement any C02 inflators.

Chain lubrication
Basic first aid kit
Make sure that you carry essential spares and have the ability to undertake rudimentary repairs of your bike; parts of the route are remote.
Points to Ponder:-
These detailed below apply to all entrants participating in Da Cooley Thriller.
Riders are required to attend sign-on to confirm that they agree to abide by the instructions given.
All riders must be self-supported.
You should ensure that both yourself and your bike are in a serviceable state to complete this ride.
Each participant, upon signing the sign-on/registration form, agrees that they are physically capable of riding the distance they have chosen. If, during the event, they decide to change their route and distance, then all consequences of this action are theirs.
If the situation arises that you are in an accident and are not capable of making the decision to call the emergency services, the rider agrees that a member of the organisation or a member of the public/other rider may call for them.
At any time pre, during, and post event, riders must conduct themselves in a manner that does not discredit themselves or the event organisers. Riders must be considerate to all farm lands and other users of trails, tracks, byways and public ways when riding on and off road.
Riders are expected to respect the countryside that the event travels through. It should be remembered that this is both a working landscape and home to many communities.
** Remember 'Leave No Trace' **
Riders stopping for a comfort break are asked to do so discretely and appropriately and not to cause any offence to local residents or other riders.
There may be sections of public road included within the course. You must obey Rules of the road.
Riders whilst participating in the event must do so wearing a helmet complying with latest standards.
Riders must carry the minimum required equipment for the full duration of the course.
This event is not open to riders under 16. (Mini course only)
Organisers cannot take responsibility for loss or damage of personal possessions during the event.
During the event there will be warning signs at appropriate points on the trails or roads used for this event. Absence of these signs does not signal there are no dangers approaching and it is the individual rider’s responsibility to make a decision regarding whether to ride a section or not. The marking of the route does not necessarily indicate that the trail or road is rideable and the participant is deemed to make their own decision about whether to proceed on bike, or foot.
Riders are expected not to drop or leave any litter on any part of the route and to dispose of it responsibly at an appropriate place or bin. Any rider found littering will be disqualified from the event. Leave No Trace Ireland.
Each participant will be fully responsible for any fees or costs incurred or arising from an accident either involving or caused by the rider. This includes, but is not exclusive to, fees from Garda, Air Ambulance, Fire and Rescue and the Ambulance service.
Food served from 2pm onwards with prize giving.
