Well, I'll be finding myself in Wales the weekend after next and I'm going to head to Coed-T-Brenin again, I was there years ago with half the club and the trails were bent, well actually I can't remember, the bits of single track might have been good but there was so much pointless fireroad in between them that the memory has been erased.
So, has anyone been there recently, I was thinking of doing the black route with a few pointless bits of firetrail removed.
Also, is there anything up near the ferry, north of Coed y brenin, I've found a load of rubbish on the official website, gobdawh's that think b roads and fireroads are mountainbiking.
If you have time to drive south, Cwmcarn is worth the effort. Great track, and the uplift runs super slick. Check the full run footage on Youtube for a taste. Just don't stay in Newport!

South wales tends to have the bigger mtb centres like this www.cwmdown.co.uk but north wales has the better mountains, have a look in that mtb mag i gave you Richie, there is a place in that in mid/south wales that is supposed to be outstanding, a 6inch bike and all the gear only job.
The best trails arn't the mtb centres though as we all know, they are the one's where you just follow your nose but doing that in snowdonia national park can be very iffy, one slip up there and you could be in a whole world of s**t.
Sound, I'll give coedllandegla a shot anyway, rode the Marin trail before, it's the bentist thing that ever bent..... allthough that was years ago, could have changed ?
Penmachno (up near Betws-y-Coed) is worth a ride if you're on an XC bike. Do the long loop. Its quite tough... there is a lot of climbing. But there a some good long descents that are great if taken at speed. Some great views as well. Much better trail than the nearby Marin trail, which I agree is mostly a waste of time (bar one descent). Its only about 2 hours drive from the ferry, so you could get it in on a travel day if the ferry timings are right.
The marin trail is an old old trail, one of the first to be built in wales if i remeber so it wouldn't have a lot of todays riding needs if you know what i mean. Llandegla is a different story and i believe coed-y-brenin has changed a good bit over the years, they have been having the Garmin sat nav challenge going on there over the last few weeks.
If i was heading over with you i could have taken you up cader Idris (thats the big mountain over looking Dolgellau) http://www.garthyfog.co.uk/cader_idris.htm some truly evil spins to be had up there.
I would have thought that all the man made trails would be grand for kids. At a guess I'd say the Marin would be the most suitable, as its probably the least rocky, and not too dangerous if you don't belt down the bumpy sections at the end.
Colin, if you're doing the big trail in CYB, there are actually 2 big sections of fireroad (and mostly fireroad) climbs that can be bypassed by taking a more direct ascent on road. They're obvious enough on the map if you look at them.
