Anyone on here ever have trouble with fluid being trapped in the bones of the lower back due to a hefty impact,
I had a fairly bad impact earlier in the year and the fellows down in the vhi clinic gave me an mri, they reckon theres fluid in my L4 and L5 (lumbar) and recommend i get physio on the area to see if it can be released, just wondering has anyone else ever had this sort of injury and if so how did you sort it.

I've had a "squished disk" for a year or so now. Went to a physio called Aidan Woods
in http://pearsestreetphysio.com/index.asp who gave me load of boring exercises that actually helped a lot - he's also used to dealing with sports injuries - he does triathlons himself and was physio to the Irish olympic team in China.
Right, I'm off to do 2000 squats and 25000 pushups.
If you give me more info, I might be able to treat it. Do you have a copy of the MRI? normally they issue a CD. Fluid on the spine is a bit too vague to give a definite.
VHI clinic is not equipped to properly diagnose back injury. Leave them to sprained ankles etc. Go see a back specialist. if you have health insurance, it won't cost much. even if you don't, it will be the best €200 you spent. I find Vincents private's consultants very good.
If it turns out to be muscular, I will happily treat you. If it's a compression or herniated disc, then leave it to the best expert you can find. back problems will haunt you for life.
Yep they gave me a cd alright, i was told to go to a physio down in Milltown and that if it didnt clear within 4 weeks from yesterday they reccomend i get a cat scan, i had already been going to a physio before as the doc in the mri told me it was muscular but afther a month of physio there was no change and as the pain is by touch directly on my L4-5 that it could be fluid, would you reccomend getting more physio and see if that works or get it checked out by vincents ?
Personally, I'd get someone to give a definite answer to what is wrong. The VHI seem unsure, so find someone who is sure. Here is the list of consultants, some work out of multiple clinics. http://www.svph.ie/rooms.htm
I don't know if you have health insurance, but find out where you are covered. Quinn only covers vincents, hence I use there.
Phone one of them, and their PA will direct you to who is best to talk to. Don't let anybody treat it till you get some answers. At best you are giving them money for nothing. at worst, you could end up with back problems for life. Physio's are great, but can do very little for herniated discs, so why waste time and money unless you know you will get results.
Yep I have insurance which covers all hospital visits etc, I think il follow your advice and get a specialists opinion, ive heard goos things about vincents too so il make an oppointment there, can you reccomend any of the consultants that you have dealt with ??
I have delt with Denis Evoy, but he is not bone. I have spoken to Eamonn Kelly's secretary Heather a good few times, so she is probably your best bet. He is bone, but might not be a back specialist. I see a thoracic surgeon there, Michael Tolan. however, he operating should be towards the end of your teatment options.
Try Heather, see what she says. She's a bit ditzy, but helpful all the same.
If all else fails, your GP will refer you to someone. I just begrudge giving €50 for them to suggest a name....
Good man Gav. I think you win in the worst injuries stakes so, I may have face planted off stuff but managed to get away with it. I'll take spectacular crashes and you can have the injuries
