thats pretty deadly..I asked the question of one of the team members before they left

" noooo, if we finish in the top 20 the thing will have paid for itself !!"

Apparently the top 10 finishers each get a country of their choice in the World development, an empty high rise apartment, and a choice of abandoned car at Dubai airport! Sweet!
That was fookin hard. Very happy with the result though... 16th place in a very competitive field. Would have been 15th except for a puncture in the last hour of the race :mad:. A few pictures of our team here : http://irishar.wordpress.com/ . I like this one (note the shorts!)
good man Eoin - that's some going - can you tell me what that brown stuff is in the photo? looks like toffee-ripple ice cream, is this a faked picture like the Apollo moon landings? I thought you went to the desert?

It looks totally fake alright... That was a very windy day, and we were sandblasted out of it for half of the cycle. Saw a few people wipeout completely on the sandbars which covered the roads. A team of professional triathletes got wiped completely (girl broke her hand in sandbar crash).
That leg was about 90km of cycling. Within 5km of the finish (in the 2pm sun) a local army lad came driving along in his 4wd handing out cans of coke which he had stashed on the passenger seat. Man, that was just pure heaven.
That picture is actually us sprinting for the finish line (another team, who were within 2 minutes of us in the race were about 100m behind). If you look carefully you can see that I'm towing Keoghser along... a very important adventure racing tactic
