Irish riders (mostly) competing in Belgium and Europe. Better to be based in Belgium when racing in mainland europe, from a logistical point of view.

It makes sense logistically, but all I hear from the government is to keep money down south, and support our own. I find it a bit feeble that they then spend money abroad.
Like the town on the news yesterday that was handing out leaflets encouraging people to save Irish jobs by buying locally.
The leaflets were printed in Enniskillen.......

Using that logic.....have the riders based in Ireland so the 6 of them have to fly + associated costs to race every week to whatever race in europe etc. That would be a huge cost and would undoubtably restrict the amount of races they can enter.

I think the Sean Kelly Training Academy is in Belgium too, this also supports the Irish riders that are living/training/racing/grinding out an existance, I think!

All nonsense aside well done conor great to see his talents recognised...were all just jealous !

now hold on a minute Gobdob..I'm not jealous ( too old ) but I am delighted for him. Lets face it , if you want to be a successful International Mountainbiker, you have to be a successful roadie.
And like U2, you have to leave Ireland to become superstars , your're not going to achieve superstardom doing up and over on the Navan road in horizontal sleet.
Or riding off camber nonsense singletrack.
I'd say Conor just wants to be the best he can be. The road offers that to talented young riders.
I will now point my stick at John Tomac who used his experiences and training with the Motorola team to launch himself interstellar.
And while I'm at it..I might also mention the Athertons who trained over the Winter with a road team n the west coast of the USA..
Don't believe for a minute the myths that the likes of Steve Peat and Greg Minaar, etc got to be deadly just drinking beer and having a laugh..because thats just nonsense to sell DVDs and magazines.
don't kid yourselves people..we love Mountainbiking, fair enough, but if you really want to be a real winner, then this is the route you have to take..
