Have a ball of cash burning a hole in my pocket (3400-00 Euro) and what to buy either a Giant or Lapierre mountain bike. So far I have only ever riden hard tail so I'm making the leap over to full sus.... However, I'm not sure to stay on the full sus cross country option or opt for the "all mountain" full sus version? Nearly everyone is saying to go with the all mountain version...
Anyhow here is what I had in mind
Cross country versions:
Giant has the Anthem X1 (2800 Euro)
Lapierre has the Xcontrol 710 (3400 Euro)
As for the all mountain full sus versions:
Giant has the Trance X1
Lapierre has the Zesty 714 (But found out today all the 2010 version is sold out) ???
Any how since I spend about 60% of my time on the Ballyhoura and the remaining 40% in Ballinastoe what do you guys think is the best bike for the job?

I wish I had such problems! :) Out of above 4 I would get either Zesty or Trance X, both great bikes. Zesty has a longish wheelbase and feels very steady, however I felt quite stretched on the medium sized frame so make sure it fits you well. Trance X has become a benchmark for medium travel full sus bikes and I haven't heard anything but good about them.
Or else, pay half of what you have and get yourself a second hand full susser...there are great bargains at the moment to be found...

Give me that €3400 and I'll turn you into a deadly rider on any bike and show you trails that will make Ballinastoe and Ballyhoura look like Henry Street

I might be out of my depth suggesting this, but the Morewood that Bren just built up looks to me like one hell of an AM bike. I'm not sure what it cost him but i'm sure you have a fair bit of change from your wedge!
It is and you will but Morewood Shova's are the preserve of the deadly rider with decerning tastes.
Only joking what the rest said.
Unless your going to start pushing your boundries a decent bit and plan on riding steeper trails with the occasional bit of distance between the ground and your wheels it will be an expensive ornament as a hard tail suits the trails your riding better.
That said you might be more inclined to push your boundries on a more forgiving bike.

the zula is sweet can't wait to get a spin on one the reviews make them sound amazing and they are one of the sexiest looking bikes around. Its also a single pivot which means super low maintenance compared to the linkage bikes like the lapierre or giant which are all nice bikes but as anyone who has owned or owns a Morewood there something a little bit special
If he wants and has the cash to spend, let him! Why limit yourself if you have the resources? It's all true that you learn more when riding hardtail etc. but not everybody has to go through it... as Bren said, everyone is different.
I have an 09 trance x4 and i have to say it is the most fun bike i have ever had. i paid â¬1530 for it and no issues so far other than wearing out the bottom bracket and ripping a mech off.
Unless you are into flash parts I would say get the 2010 trance X3 and save the other 2K as it really is all the bike you need and the rest is up to you.
