I bought my very first real MTB tyre off him..it was a panaracer TimbuktII as I recall..that was a long, long time ago..
Had a very wierd experience this morning, I drive past his shop every morning and often pop in for nothing but a look. Definately the friendliest bike shop I have ever been in and I have highly recommended them to friends despite never buying a bike off them Anyway, as I drove past this morning the shutters were down and I instinctively said to myself 'Ah, Joe must have died.' Sadly I was right. All my best to all his family.
spent many hours looking at stuff I could never afford and looking for something a bit special that would make my bike stand out like V-brakes or a crud catcher!
They always had their raleigh M-trax range in order of price/model, they looked good back then, no suspension just nice paint jobs and a bit of anodizing. mmmmm
I think his real name was Joe Tansey, But everyone knew his as Joe Daly or Mr. Daley! He was a real gent and a great supporter of BMX racing in the 8o's, sad news.
All my bikes as a kid came from Joe, he was a very nice man and always delughted to see you if he knew you. Fair play to him for stayin in the shop for this long and all he did for everyone.
Joe Daly's was the only bike shop I went to when I was growing up, And he was allways a gentleman, Got my 1st bike off him when I was discovering this wonderful sport of ours, The Irish cycling community has lost one of its elders, R.I.P Joe.
