Big well done to the EPIC riders, John, Rossco and Morty who took on the Gorey 3-day over the Easter weekend.

Well done to EPIC riders in the Gorey 3-day
Well âTeam Epic Roadâ again entered the Gorey 3 day over the weekend, Myself, Ross and John are trying to spread the word of M.T.B to the roadies! Anyway the race left Tallaght on Saturday morning at 12 for Gorey, the stage was 110km in total, went over two climbs, it was a quick stage averaging 42Km per hour, all Epic lads finished safety, however Ross got a puncture, and had further bad luck by having to change his wheel twice as the spare one that he got was ***t. Second day there was a 7km TT in the morning and a lapped race, 100km, around Gorey in the evening. Rossâs carbon wheel decided to explode on the third lap and that was his race finished, myself and John finished too survive another day. At this stage we gained a bit of road respect and were invited out for dinner by Murphy Surveyors CC followed by belly dancing in the restaurant!, No none of us showed are stuff. Yesterday was the return trip to Blessington, 93Km with only one climb, race started very quick with a few early breaks going, when we hit Tullow we had a tailwind all the way back, getting up to 55-60Km on the flats. In all it was a great weekend both on and off the bike, were looking forward to next year and hopefully we can get some more Epic on the road.

Gotta say well done to the 2 lads for giving it socks over the weekend, watch out for the Daragh lad he's flying at the mo. He had his crazy race head well and truly on for all 4 stages, drilling it up the front of the bunch every day. John was going deadly for someone who says they did no race preperation at all, good on ye.
My final result for the Gorey is 1 fecked carbon wheel, ah well thats the hazards of racing on Irish roads with crater sized potholes. The same pothole took out about 10 riders, fair play to neutral service for a quick wheel change only the wheel thaey gave me had 3 useable gears!! Waited up for the back up car to get my own spare wheel then went like a feckin demon to get back on the bunch, 76kph is always fun on 2 wheels! Tried to use the same wheel on stage 3 and managed to completely write it off.
Also a big well done to the overall winner, Gareth Enright. An amazing effort to go from starting satge four with just a 1 second gap, then finishing the stage over a whole minute up, savage stuff.
Anyway, time to hang the road bike up for a while and get back out on the mtb. Hopefully we'll get even more Epic heads at the many more road races left in the calendar.
