What do you eat for breakfast ?

Well ?

I'm just curious, I know all the DH boys have 4 cans of dutch and a smoke but what do the rest of yiz have ?

I eat too much cereal, nearly 200g which is about 800 Calories, which is a fair chunk of what you should eat in a day. I want to replace part of it or all of it.

I know the best option is fruit and yogurt but I just couldn't eat enough fruit first thing in the morning to keep me going, I could drink a smoothie but I couldn't be arsed making one regularly (and cleaning the poxy blender).

Some people say egg and toast, protien and some carbs, it's good but... hmmmm

I'm just looking for inspiration from you fine people.

Ye know, I looked at porridge today, it has a far higher fat content than most cereals (5.5g) and it has as high a Calorie content, why do people think its the low fat option ??

Some of you racers must have a routine going.
Musli with dried fruit and a fresh banana works for me for pre-race breakfast, then another banana or something light 1,5h before the race. I'm only 10.7 stone so you'd need a bit more I would say to keep you going..
Cheers, I'll check out museli

I'm not that worried about pre-race / non-race days, just mostly concerned with finding something sustainable.
porridge with raisins and chopped apple & nuts in it mostly, (sounds a bit like a cake now I come to think of it)
sometimes Weetabix with a 'nana.
the good thing about porridge is that you feel full for much longer after a bowl of it vs cereal, thus less requirement to have a snack before lunch time.
Ok, museli has about 3 times the Calories that normal cereal has....

By the way, before someone says... just ride your bike more you fat f*cker, I know, I thought of that first.....

Excelent....

So... what's keeping you full I wonders... the extra fat, the fibre....

The protien !!! there's 11g, protien is big thing when it comes to satiety...

thankyou
For many years I never ate breakfast, then last year I started and can feel that my metabolism has changed somewh, the engine being fired up earlier in the day. Breakfast is Shreddies or something similar which not great but better than nothing. Porridge does nothing for me, it may be good for you but just look at it. I dig the smoothie idea but as you say it is hassle, you could always blend 2 days supply at a time, but don't all the nutrients evaporate or something when fruit is broken down like that? You can tell I didn't pay attention in Geology class.

Anyway, someone give Colin some suggestions, I want the answer too.
Colin..
I have eaten Porridge everyday for nearly 20 years...it is the secret food..Doris also swears by it..
Fat is fat is fat is fat..
But Porridge with a banana..
When I was training for my Blackbelt..i had a bowl of porridge plus and Omellette made from 4 eggwhites and one yoke

2 Hours later i had a maximuscle

2 hours after a tin of Tuna and some rice
2 hours after Chicken and pasta with no sauce ( eieyooo)
Protein will make you feel full and Pine Nuts which are full of fat and protein are an appetite Suppressor..
Forget about fat..the protein will kill the fat molecules
I know, I am a Doctor !
But seriously..protein..
and if you are gorging on the Protein..
Drink loads of water and or Cranberry Juice or Pimneapple juice, both of which apparently aid the breakdown of protein..
there are Witches and Warlocks out there that go on that excess protein will be pissed out of your system but I don't believe any of that scientology guff !!
This works for me and I'm 103 years old !
theres so many myths surrounding diet and nutrition..and fads are cyclical..
If you are not feeling full its mainly because you have a larger surface area than the rest of us inside and out !! and what works for us does not necessarily work for larger specimens like you..
No matter what you eat somebody is going to tell you that its too much of this and not enough of that..
Steak, red wine an pizza works for me these days but when I was a serious competitor it was all about the skinless chicken and straining the sauce of the baked beans, the cafe noir biscuits and the one mars bar a week !!
On race day or any big spin I eat a bowl of porridge with fruit or frozen berries all mixed in and a big scoup of honey, then I scoff two poached eggs on brown bread all washed down with a nice cup of tea and plenty of fluids..
Jeaaasus Adamski.... you're a feckin horse

Cheers Richie, there is a common thread here... porridge porridge porridge....

I used to concentrate on fat content but once you get to a certain (low) level its pointless, now I concentrate on Calories, but you are right, Protien is the main man, I think I said it earlier, it's what makes you feel full.

I might have to go on rotation, porridge one day, smoothie another, eggs another....

Yeah, cafe noirs, I love them.

Right so...
My physio said that Pineapple is a good anti inflammatory, so you can eat that for breakfast and bin yourself repeatedly with no ill effects.

As me granny says "you must have hollow legs".
As the man says ..... Porridge, Porridge, Porridge! Usually with grapes or strawberries sliced into it!
Porridge is king.
I changed my eating regime to suit regular exercise / training
Went on heavy amounts of protein along fibre, complex carb's in moderation and virtually no dairy and no bread or pastas
lost a shed of weight and was still enjoying smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast and steak or lamb for dinner
Got the diet from a personal trainer
drop me an email and i can pass it on

But get on your bike more and you should be burning more than your eating, regardless of what you've eaten or drank

Also - i take it that since your concerned on your calorie intake for breakfast, you're not drinking any booze?
When i broke my collar bone i piled on the weight. Decided to cut out a lot of carbs and lost close on 2 stone in a month.
Now it porridge in the morning. Salad at lunch and big hunks of meat or chicken with salad or roast veggies for dinner.
Nuts for snacks
Easy enough to stick too and reasonable healthy.
It's not a race thing or anything just a way of loosing a few pounds without starving yourself.
Out went pasta, pizza and spuds.
