Grand Canal Spin

I have to bring a couple of beginner women cyclists out on a spin. Was thinking of going from town along the grand canal out to Newcastle area(Village at Lyons). I have no Idea what this route is like.....has anybody cycled it?

I read they are upgrading parts of it.....also heard it can be full of Skangers, Pikeys, horses, more Skangers and the likes....

Any info would be great.

If not tell them you know Mc Nipples and you'll have no hassle.
sound like, lots of dog shi.e and broken bottles to me so bring your puncture kit
