Map for Garmin

Hello all techy and geeky types!

I got one of those Garmin GPS yokes in the raffle yesterday

It only comes with a basic world map (where Dublin is just a dot, not to mention any mountain areas etc)

Would anyone have a map of Ireland or even better, topo map of Wicklow / Dublin mountains that I could upload to it?

A bit less than the €200 Garmin want for their map.

Can't download that for some reason, says 'file unavailable'...have you tried it?

You could try http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm (It the has Irish maps too) Although I have used the ones from emerald island successfully.

Can't get this to work on a mac, any tips, tried both options above with no joy!!

Thanks! Downloaded and uploaded to Garmin with no problems. The map looks good, has all the streets, topo, wicklow way and other trails, summits etc.

Couldn't use links above, have you any tips for maps for Garmin Edge 705?

I downloaded this:

Unzipped and renamed to:

gmapsupp.img

Connected my Garmin via USB and copied that file into the 'Garmin' folder, I suppose you can do the same by copying the file onto a MicroSD card.

That worked for the Dakota 20 garmin, not sure about the Edge but should be the same.

are they worth it?
which one would you recommend?
do they come with maps etc?

I want one too - from what the Mac is saying, the 705 is the sh!t,
feckin expensive though...

Put your patient hat on and go to ebay... got mine for €180 including P+P (with a heart rate monitor strap) as far as I can remember.. it was definitely less than €200..
