Donegal

Long time lurker, first time poster!... I'm heading up to Donegal at the weekend for a family thing and was thinking of bringing the bike up to actually give myself something to do while I'm there! Heading to somewhere around Ards around the north end of the county. Any of you lads been up that direction and know and any specifically good areas worth checking out? Found a few suggestions on google (trailbadger.com)... No doubt there's loads of wild untouched areas up there that you'd likely pick out on a map anyway but any ideas would be much appreciated... Have lived here on and off the last few years (currently on) and ards has some 'fun' fireroad stuff, and there was that one deer track I found that was good, but it was nothing exceptional. The trailbadger stuff could be worth checking out, I always end up going back home (Louth) to get some proper trails though.

Depending on how adventurous you want to be, there is loads. Ards is ok if you just want to spin your legs, with some nice open paths at the back of the friary heading toward the beaches.(you'll understand that when you get there.) Muckish is a fair bit tougher, being totally exposed. There is a vauge trail on the northern side heading west and up the mountain. Although you would want to keep a good eye on the weather!

One word of warning... Dont even entertain going to Glenveagh on a bike. Its a national park, and therefore totally out of bounds for biking.

Muckish seems interesting, mind you the weather looks pretty pox for the weekend. Will have to weigh up whether or not Its gonna be worth bringing the bike up - realistically i'll only have one full day up there anyway.
