Snowboarding

Im keen to head up for some boarding tomorrow. Dont know any boarders or spots. I have a 4WD (Forester) Which unless clearance is a prob can get most places.
If any one keen give me a shout.

Im away from pc from now so call or tx.

Me and Andy are thinking of going somewhere tomorrow, but we don't know any spots either. With a 4x4 the possibilities are broader.

Dave / Al / Adam - where would you recommend?

Glendo was fun yesterday glencrea was not so fun today, road was 4x4 only though. A few of my mates are thinking of hiking to the top of djouce tomorrow.

We'll be going by 4x4 so should be ok, what time are you thinking of heading up there? PM me your phone no I'll ring you when we're in the area.

I'd love to get some snowboarding in tomorrow. I don't have a 4x4 so if you are heading anywhere accessible by 2wd that would be cool.

Im working tomorrow not sure what time there heading up at.

Snow in wicklow was getting wet and heavy by the time we left wicklow this eve.. though high Mountains up should hold up better or fresh falls will revive it, though today any roads other than the main roads in wicklow were in a bad way again should be better tomorrow.. roundwood/Laragha/Glendo are fine to get to.. just find as steep a slope as you can get up and have fun..

Well that was deadly... have to eat now but I'll put up some pictures later!

Ok... so it was me, John (stailfish540), Andy and Darragh (Dman). We were not put off by the horrible slushy snow in town and decided to head up to Djouce car park and see how things looked up there.
It was fine around Djouce and we had thoughts about boarding down the farmers field beside the forest but we eventually decided to try go up to Lugalla car park (which I thought was a bit mad at the time).
The road up to Lugalla was actually great but there were a few steep bits along the way and the 4wd really came in handy. I have to say I was impressed how that Subaru Forester climbed, no problem what so ever!



So we went up the board walks towards White Hill / Djouce and met more snowboarders on the way, Niall Davis and a gang from Kilternan snowboard school I think. They found their own slope and we found ours. After a few runs and spectacular crashes we decided to join the main group. It was amazing!



I struggled a bit ( I was ****e!) in the deep sticky snow but the lads were flying!

Niall went to board down Djouce and we stayed for a bit longer, here is the Djouce mtn in the background



We got back to the car park and John decided to make his long time dream come true and snowboard behind the car holding on to a tow rope! And he did (Andy might have a video to prove it!) all the way down to the main road (scraping the bejesus out of his board on the a bit of exposed tarmac)

All in all it was a fantastic day out, I would highly recommend to go up there tomorrow if you have a chance, for skiing, boarding, whatever.



Thanks to Andy for a loan of the board and shoes and to John for the lift, it was well worth it!

P.S. Sorry Colm, I didn't get your msg in time, there was no more room in the car anyway...

a few of us went up ballinastoe and then on to top of djouce today. probably one of the best days snowboarding i ever had. it was amazing. going hunting again tomorrow. anyone got any suggestions for an epic hike???

No worries Max I had replied late anyways, hoping to get out 2mrw, what were the roads like up there, any chance in front wheel drive van??

I'd say you'd get up there in 2wd but you'll be in trouble if you slide of the tracks into deeper snow. Park at Ballinastoe car park and hike from there.
The road from Kilmac to Roundwood is perfect, no snow at all.

i'm heading up there Tuesday if anybodys interested..I'm going to Bstoe and hiking up to White hill..

Great fun, though my leg is in bits after that incident with the tree stump.
