Well Dave doesn't seem to be bothered reviving it, which is a pity.
In latter days it was a foil to EPICmtb..
It was the serious , lonely side of XC racing , while this Forum was full of rowdie mad men. Manys a time I would wish it would just fcuk off somewhere else..the ranting and the giving out grated on my nerves.
But now that its not theres, well i miss it.
It was the very first soapbox for Irish Mountainbiking and in a major way it brought all of us together.
EPICmtb would not exist without it. Thats where we started and its where Morgan revived MAD.
Like I say , sometimes I really wished it would disappear up its own arse.
But it was important, I don't know how many times i was banned off it.
Always out of divilment on my part.
But it was very important, especially at the beginning. I'm sure Dave Gill started it when we ran the Nationals in Kilriuddery in 2000 and it really was groundbreaking.
All the other forums are Club Forums..this one in particular is irreverent and scandalous..

But mtbireland was a bit more impartial sort of.
But now theres an imbalance and nature will attempt to correct it..
and i don't want to start promoting Cyclocross or ranting about categories and the commission and carding and worshipping Bob Benchcut..
But I will if I have to..unless I put aside a section for MTBireland on this forum..
after all thats how we got started !!
I think it would be a shame to see it disappear, like Kilruddery, Rosenallis, Oldcastle,Lumpers, Ravensdale,Union wood and all the other deadly venues we've lost

plenty of trails still in the lumpers, and ravensdale and oldcastle , just not 100% welcome but sure thats half the fun being somewhere your not supposed to :) mtb ireland gone but not forgotten maybe it will rise again lol
I have to agree that it is a pity the site is gone. A few years ago when I again took up club secretary role in IMBRC, Dave let us have our own forum on the site, so we could have a focus for members to go to. Eventually we got our own site, but it was a great help.
As far as Rosnallis goes, the main reason we stopped using the venue was the difficulty of getting down there in sufficient numbers to maintain the trails. The Slade will always be the IMBRCs spiritual home.
Some very funny times back there, the calibre of arguments was second to none. Dave gave us all place to chat and kept it going with little by way of thanks. So cheers Dave, end of an era but you are always welcome here.
it's back.... eleven years later.... and it's still here... ! yes it was the birth place of Epic.... and is the place were old skool people like Joe and Robin come to voice their opinions... I've long since got tired for updating it... so many sites out there now doing that... but I think we do need a place were the independents can speak their mind...
the site grew out of mtbchamps.com .... a site set up to promote Team-WORCS first time to run the champs back in the day... there was an obvious gap in the market for a site for mountain bikers in Ireland.... we had irishcycling.com ... but no site dedicated to mountain biking.... mtbireland started and did dh and XC... then braydownhill came along.. Brock doing a great job...so the dh was dropped... the site continued... a couple of years ago the dilution started... I said to Fergus that if he wanted to come on board and run the site he was welcomed to do so... for some reason that put his nose out of joint and irishxcmtbmtbing.com was born.... anyway...
$8000 dollars and it's yours..!!!! time to change the site...i've been putting it off for quite some time.... so many sites now doing it... so need to do something different... (spoke.ie is probably the best of them)....

Such anger...! bile and bullsh!t....?????????????? colourful language from the Secretary & XC Racing co-ordinator of the offroad commission.
The new cats for XC racing for 2011 were born on the forum on mtbireland... They were not the idea of the offroad commission... The OC did take it on board and released two half arsed attempts at changing the categories... it's all there in black and white on the internet.... It wasn't until a non elected sub committee had a meeting about it that that we finally got to where we are now which is the suggested categories from this post way back in July 2010....
Also the reduced race length for elites/Senior 1 came from discussions on that forum... so to label that the content from the site as bile and bullsh!t .... well... I take offence to that.... as too I'm sure the people who contributed to the sensible discussion about the subject. My heart sinks that this came from our XC Racing co-orinator for the offroad commission.
I hope you do given that it is the source of the biggest changes that have happened in XC racing this year and without the discussions on there we would be racing with A1A, A1B, A2, A3, Vets, Sports..etc etc.... Such a pity people can't be mature enough to take advice on board from people like Robin and Joe who have both been racing since racing started in this country...

I was entertained this morning , there is one very important thing about mtbireland that Dave said and that it is the platform for people like Joe and Robin, the two most experienced MTB racers in the Country without a doubt, to have a say.
If they tried to be sensible on here or get a point across we would just draw moustaches on them or put up fake pictures of them in the nip and stuff.
A lot of people have said to me , that it would be a pity to see it go and I was compelled to appeal to Dave to revive it.
Which is funny because I really would have loved to see it die screaming with Dave along with it for a long time !!
But i can't get away from the fact that it really was groundbreaking.
It skyrocketed MTB interest in this Country.
We used to have to put posters up in shops and ring people to organise spins before it came along.
Nobody was demonised on it as much as I was , ah the craic that time the boys brought 17 pages of Richie Byrne quotes to the CI AGM to show what a monster i was !!
But , you know me, theres no such thing as bad publicity !!
So Dave, get the finger out and revive it but be fair to Fergal, he does some amount of work for the sport for nothing and I rarely agree with him but we were not exactly perfect when we were doing it either !!
I know this is like the dog calling the cat " Hairy Hole" but lets not stoop to calling each other names, it just demeans us.
The only reason everybody gets wound up is because we're passionate about what we do and we know we can make a difference.

Thanks again Richie... to be honest I never resorted to name calling.. just pointed out some facts after the site was attacked.... the above thread looks a bit odd without the nasty posts which were directed at me... posts which were a bit short sighted given history and the fact that our club has stepped up to run the champs this year... not bigging up our club or looking for pats on the back but I'm an integral party of event co-ordination within the club and after comments like that I faced a real dilemma about my participation in organisation of this years champs... Anyway they were deleted but those that saw them might understand where I'm coming from and those that didn't well I won't post the comments again just glad the thread is back on topic... The interwebnet is full of 'Irish Mountain Bike Information Website's.... but I've some idea's about the direction of the site so hopefully in the coming weeks I'll get a chance to redo it so it has a place in the current climate.....

Holy jeebus, remember when there was just 2 Categories - Senior and Junior !!
I do.....!!! highlight for me was the MAD race in the Park....! Was a junior back then.... Allister Martin punctured in the seniors and I found myself in first place... think it was about six laps long... rode out of my skin.... junior leading the seniors.... lol..then about a lap and half to go and I blew my lights.... was seeing spots.... think I was second junior and 6th senior that day..... Wasn't that was the race when the cyclone courier broke his neck in the river crossing.... Peter caught it on video.... ouch...
yep.. I was standing there with my clipboard and he landed at my feet on his head !
I have heaps of video I have to put on the interweb !!
