Monkstown Skatepark

Out of curiosity, does Monkstown Skatepark allow BMXes in ?

If that's the place beside the Blue Pool I'm pretty sure they do Richie! Can we have a go ... can we ..... can we?

yeah they do but its pretty crap for bikes im told not a patch on greystones or bushy park. The modular style parks are much better suited to the skaters than the bikers. Not that im an expert on these things as ive never ridden in a skate park. Im just going on what im told

I think you need to pay in as well.

never been there but its rep is not stellar, bikes are alowed, didn't know you had to pay in, is it a private enterprise? Can't imagine the council charging although I think they do in Sundrive on the velodrome or they used to.

it is a council one and they do charge. It only around the corner so i was curious.I was thinking of a Felt demo day , you see.

Well, you don't need to pay into Bushy or Greystones, and they are the only two other ones I've been to. Monkstown is very much skater focused, but would probably be perfect for beginners.

Good man Hoppo, tell me, are you any use on one? I'm looking for somebody who can use a BMX in a park. Somebody a bit boisterous like your good self. Some of the other BMXers i know are a bit on the dour side !!

I've watched the guys many times in Greystones, seems to be top class, plenty of ways to hurt yourself.

There was some BMX event on in Monkstown last weekend... there's a cool picture of Stephen Beirne in one of the papers getting some air off one of the ramps..

Bushy Skatepark is feicin deadly... I've been down on the street bike a few times & it really is a lot of fun... They don't like 26" wheels but it depends who's on the door if they let you in... BMX are grand though..

Some very handy riders last time I was there.. on BMX's and street bikes.. head down there some Saturday and check the place out..

Lots of talented local freestyle riders out there, I only know a few of them as I don't frequent the skate parks so I don't know the kids that are ripping it.
Jason Phelan from Waterford rides at the X-Games he is a total savage. He has to be our best freestyle rider, but what do I know? (I had wrote he represents Ireland, but that is not true we don't officially recognise his existence as a cyclist and that has to change, probably will if Vert gets into the 2016 Olympics) but I digress...
There are also parks in Clongriffin and Lucan, they don't have the deep bowls like Busy.
The Monster Mash is on up in T13 this weekend and it's worth a trip just to see Matt Gillespie and Chris Nunn ride a bike.
