dislocated shoulder

i popped my shoulder for the 1st time paddlin jacksons, after igot it sorted in hospital, the depressing fact of recovery period crossed my mind. when can i expect to get back to mtbiking, any advice?
When it's fixed. Don't rush that one or you'll end up with a shoulder that pops every time you go to wipe your arse.
Only surgery will fix it then.
I've seen it as a paddler myself. Lads who rushed back paddling etc became a real liability with their shoulder popping out again in very inconvenient places.
Do your healing and then the physio. Invest in a turbo trainer in the meantime.
Like the Bren I have been known to dabble in a bit of paddling every now and then.

Rehab, rehab, rehab! Don't rush back to boating or you will suffer the consequences in everything you do forever.

There will be lots of days on the water in the future if you rehab correctly.

i dislocated me shoulder in the 70s on the Boyne..Jacksons was just something you looked at in those days..Its never been right. It hasn't popped out in years but it used to all the time. Because I didn't heed the witch doctors we had them..it still clicks when I do drunken pushups.
But my wife dislocated hers last year and she was out of action for months and she is way tougher than most of the men on here..
get physio from somebody who knows what they are doing with that sort of injury..not your regular Physio.
Carol is well back in action now but still cautios because of it.
I can't believe I'm saying this,,but don't rush it. Listen and do exactly what your Doctors say.
I dislocated my shoulder last year and I would strongly recommend regular swimming to build it up again. I would stay clear of any mountain biking until you have full strength and flexibility back. You'll know when its strong again when you can swim at full strength without any discomfort.
thanks for the good advice lads, saw the shoulder doc today, and its 3 weeks in the sling then starting physio. i think the swimming would be good, ill just have to be patient, but you know when you see the summer slipping by.....anyway i appreciate the replies, cheers hamish.
Hamish, were are you based? Have a super Physio (Sports Med), Works with Pro Sports people, getting them back to comp/match etc fitness. She is based in Skerries.

Send me a pm and I'll pass on her details.

That goes for the rest of yis'
