whats hot and whats not?experience based opinions only please

I did the ones in betsy coed a couple of years ago
they are good but it's better here i Think.
we drove over and rented a house and did snowdonia too.
good crack, I'd do it again but it all feels very samey after a while.

Snowdon itself is a must, but you have to be off the mountain before 10am or something like that.

We did a few back in April.

Coed Y Brennin was only ok. Some good bits but overall a bit of a letdown.

There is a "voluntary agreement" that bikers stay off Snowdon between May and October. I'm not sure how strict it is, but worth finding out more info.

Do it Jackson..all them except the Mach ones are worth doing, they all have little deadly bits..you'll enjoy them.
But don't come back without riding up Snowdon.
But not on a rigid xc bike, oh no.

Don't do the Marin trail, it's a complete waste of time

Its the final descent on the Brechfa Gorlech trail

it's short ok, but the xc black run makes the trip.

and the place has a pump track, jump park and freeride of death track, foods etc it's a good day out

If you are around south Wales, Brechfa is definitely worth a look. You can put the Black and Red loops together to make an approximately 40km spin.

The red trail in particular is great fun, with a mad descent full of steep berms and generally deadly singletrack - as per that Youtube video.

When I was there we started at the red (Gorlech) trail head, rode the first half of the red, then branched off onto the black, riding the second half of the red last. This saves the best til last.

It's a handy hours drive from Fishguard

I still think Coed Y Brenin is a good day out when ridden in anger, though you do need to bate along to get the best out of it, and a full suss would be the bike of choice - I had the Ragley and it was good but a full-suss would be much faster
- and they will likely have that deadly BMX style track finished - looks really fast with rollers/berms/jumps

Afan Forest Park

If you're down in South Wales you could look into Alan Forest Park which is about 1hr 40mins from Fishguard. The area has 5 trails, bike shop, cafe, etc and there are specialist accommodation in the area.

I'm original from the area although I haven't been up there in over a decade but it is popular location for riders around the UK....worth looking into.
