Today was like playing a game of chess with the wind and it nearly won in its first move, 135km flat route, but a kicker 30kph sidewind for the first 90km then tail for 20, then side for the last25km, at the 5km mark all I could see is one straight line of riders stretched out in front of me for 300meters, HR at 180+ I thought "oh Im going to be gone here unless I do something" digging deep I moved up, lined out again for the next 30km with me eating the bars, then out the corner of my I could see cars coming up a quick look around to notice I was last man in the front group! The race settled a bit after that but all the damage was done. Full of confidence it then turned out to be a day of first's, first I when back to the car for water, this scare's me as trying to get back on can be near impossible, then with 20km to go while in the front group, a rear puncture, again a first, a wheel change later more first's, sitting 4" from a car bumper at 70kph, then trying to get back through the cavalcade I jumped car to car trying to get shelter while also pulling off wingmirrors to get a extra boost, after going up and down the cars and reaching car number 3 and 10km balls out, all I could do is sit up and roll into the finish,. Great day today but the big mountain stage starts tomorrow, let hope the bit of form carries over.
