Saw this thing on the Crossmarock website about 'handups'? Had to google it, as far as I can decipher its when the onlookers at a CX race hand out beer or other items (cash, bacon.... etc.) to those racing for a bit of a laugh.... and a reverse handup? Well its when a racer hands stuff to the onlookers as he rides along... one example was a guy who apparently stuffed his pockets full of cans of beer and handed them to those with cowbells at a race.
Nuts or what.
I nearly used the word 'crowds' instead of onlookers in the above paragraph, but then thought again, there haven't really been crowds at the races, but a good bunch of onlookers, many surprised to see such a carry on in their local park. In that respect CX has to be the best to get your average Joe Blogs possibly interested in biking, road racers disappear into the Irish countryside and mountainbikers carry on the sport in what passes for the back of beyonds for most people, CX is under peoples noses and hopefully might help to change perceptions of cycling as being merely how you got to school when you were a young un.
