Road race season kicks off this weekend. Am thinking of going along to one of the Leinster races. Been five years since I was the doing road races last time. Anyone else thinking of going along?

There’s a few guys in the club who’ve done a good bit of road racing over the years, they would know a lot more than I do. As far as your CI licence, for entering a road race. Yeah, you do need to have a race type licence for 2017. CI are a bit slow at getting these out in the post, will take a few weeks They send an email straight away, with a pdf version, that is enough to bring along for a race sign on, until the card arrives in the post. They send out race numbers in the post as well. If waiting on those, I’ve seen races giving out temporary race numbers for pinning on jersey, at sign-on, that you pay a few quid extra for.
Not much more to it than that. Pedal like a maniac for the first 10 mins and then settle in for the never ending panic attack.
Oh yeah, and wearing club gear in mandatory.
All the races are "open". You can turn up to any race as long as the category you are in has a race on. No pre-entering or anything like that

Try and stay up the front of the peloton as its safer up there and always keep passing other wheels or ul soon be down the back.
Well lads. I am hoping to do the Ras naomh Finian in Clonard on the 4th of March to pop my road racing cherry. I will be riding on a day license as I don't see myself doing more than one or two of these races before the real racing kicks in. Actually looking forward to it!

I was on a crit last year in Corkagh Park, but got on the wrong wheel and got dropped in the first 5 lap :-D
But I am looking forward for more experience and perhaps fun now.

I could not make it unfortunately, but have ordered my full competition license - we only live once :-)
I will be browsing the road race calendar (apart from the obvious MTB one ;-) ) so might start up another thread when I find one. It would be nice to work together with another club member, helping each other.
Not too many Epic jersey's there today. Very tough conditions ..wind and rain with a bit of sun. Advertised as 104km but ended up being 130km.
Enjoyable race (apart from all that!) .
Well, fair play John. All set packing the car for Navan this morning. Chickened out with the state of the weather. Day for loonies to be out racing. Grim enough
Double fail myself this weekend. Saturday, drove out to Sumerhill for the race. Fluting around with the bike before the start and mangled an internal gear cable. Its properly goosed, can't thread a cable through anymore. Got it going enough to start the race. Half a lap and lost touch. Bad day at the office. Will try again next weekend. Disappointing not to see more of the race
