report from the road...Sat 4 March 2017

went along to ras naomh finian in clonard saturday morning. numbers were up from last week, say about double, 100 or so. got dropped on the only piece of road that went up, a short draggy climb after the turnaround in kilbeggan. the rest of the course like a pancake. a lesson to add to the memory banks. don't dwaddle at the back of the bunch or be prepared to sprint. its tough down the back with less protection from the wind when things get strung out. the pace was handy on the way out with loads of guys heading up the road. was even thinking i should have a pop at one stage. ha, i thought better to try and get used to moving around the bunch. there was one crash on the way out. a close call, the guy directly in front of me fell over. think he was trying to look over his shoulder and hit a cats eye. he went down in path of the fixx roleurs guy to my left and took him out. the weather all race wasn't that nice. cold and wet. hands got so numb, couldn't squeeze the water bottle. the constant gritty spray in face is no craic either. driving home, had the heating on in the car full whack, still shivering by the time i hit the m50. will try again next weekend

But this weather is not enjoyable for road racing. This time of year can be a bit crazy too, so maybe give it 2 weeks for the weather to improve and the mad lads to crash and finish their season.

Good lad Ronan planning on doing the Boyne GP this weekend if the weather is ok
