Ras Naoimh Finian is fast approaching with the race due to be held on Saturday 12th of March at 11am. This is our biggest race of the season with cyclist coming for all over Ireland. The race will involve a 70k handicap for all categories and will follow the same route as last year. The race will start in Clonard and follow the old Galway road to Kilbeggan roundabout and returning by the same route. That was the grimmest and coldest race I've ever done, I couldn't brake or shift towards the end as my hands and arms were totally numb. I had to help Morty take his car keys from his pocket it was that bad! And the sight of tens of riders shaking and spilling their coffees, priceless!
Epic team had a good race with Morty finishing 3rd any myself 7th. All came down to the sprint finish as none of the breaks were successful. Nomad would've been up there as well but he had a scary collision near the finish line and nearly crashed (only broke a spoke so it's not too bad).
Looking forward to the mtb spin tomorrow, I don't think I could go out there on the road again in this weather!
Oh and Lynchy did the A4 race and he would've had a good race if we hadn't made a schoolboy error of getting dropped. He'll know to stay closer to the front of the bunch next time!

I'm absolutely crippled ..... Tracey says I'm walking like John Wayne! I was quite comfortable at the back of the bunch, lost concentration for a minute on a bit of a climb and the next thing I was gone off the back! It's amazing how quickly you lose the tow ..... 20mts, 50mts, 100mts, gone!!! I then had over 50 kms on my own in the sleet and wind to consider my stupidity at my leisure!! Still I managed to average 33kms/hr over the 70kms so I'm well pleased with that! Next time I'll keep myself much further up the pack!
The more I think about this, the more I realise what a great result that was for Max today! We all know that Morty is a proper road savage but for Max to finish "in the money" in a road race, in his first season, really is a fantastic achievement! Fair dues Max!
Grim stuff today alright. Fair play to the 2 lads, did well to get up. MTB domination today with Mel winning the ladies race aswell. Fair play to Richard, the back is definately not the place to be. I was at the back for a bit and it was harder there than further up because of the accordion effect.
