Ballinastoe - jeebus

haven't been there in ages, but passed it today going from Roundwood to Djouce and i couldn't believe my eyes..it was like the world champs were on in the place..the car park was completely full..they were end to end on the road..unbelievable
Djouce has random punters wandering around looking for the trails too.
I've never seen anything like it..theres also randomers in Djouce on DH bikes riding the DH track ( XTC) !!
I asked and thats what i was told !!
Amazing
Sign of the times - I passed by Niall Davis and his girlfriend in the Lead Mines yesterday and they had two completely full classes - us "goobers" are taking over - has to be good for the sport!?!?
good for the bike shops and people like Niall and Tarja and good if the local Authorities and the government build more trails.
And good if they join the Clubs and learn manners.
Coillte need to open up more forests. I think when they built Ballinastoe they thought that that would be it. but anybody with a brain could have seen that it would just explode !!
The other thing is Rich, you need to stop going there, it'll ruin you..I saw 2 other experienced riders hanging around their today. Its shameful..them gaylords and they know who they are , are only going there to look like Gods..and that includes you mr Lynch..
and as for them Garmin yokes..does everybody who goes to Ballinastoe have to have one..
I mean i know, the signs are small..but jaysus ,surely ye can find your way back to the car park without one..
I am chomping at the bit for my first encounter with a Goober riding the wrong way around the club track..
I'm not sure if i'll just take his pants or maybe his pants and his shoes..
I guess I'll just have to wait and see how frisky I am at the time..
its amazing..there was a time when I would have known the name of every single mountainbiker in Ireland..
Now I think I'll just call all the new people I meet, Dave..
" Hello Dave" I'll say..
Actually I'm going to change Goober to Dave..
yeah but you're not right in the head !!!
But theres nothing wrong with Ballinastoe..and there is something wrong with millions of Daves..
they will stink up the place with their fat arses and their Garmins going beep beep bing beep..
Oh look I'm 2 kilocams from the car park..if I turn right after the first singletrack I will be at an elevation of 20 nautical miles..
They will rape and bugger the trails we've lovingly crafted..crafted for our skills..skills honed on 3 rock and on bikes that would fall apart if we cleaned them, and we all know when it gets tricky they will cut corners and pull down features..
They approach it as if its Golf or Squash..
something to do on a Sunday to make them feel like a " warrior"..
You used to be cool Sham !!!
leave them to ballina daffyd you just end up with the ballinastoe gay if you ride there too much(an inability to ride anywhere else). They'll go to djouce and the leadmines and think there crap because there too hard and they will go back to ballina daffyd and be content with not pushing there yang to the max
Thats it Al..
No Yang..they have no Yang..!!it must be weird though..thinking Ballinastoe is actual mountainbiking..you wouldn't believe the crowds down there today on a really **** day..but, having said that, like i said its even scarier to see paul keogh and his mates down there strutting around like pagan sex gods storming the gates of hell, with nothing on but a smile and a wink..
I swear MDH had a striker on him that would rival a T-rexes..
You used to be cool , Paul..back when you thought Gary Numan and Jimmy Sommerville would make a brilliant double act..
Now all you have is Sundays spent having your saddle rubbed by hordes of Daves..
They only like you because you know Ken Farrar, you know ..
I also used to be fit and have long hair too, time to move on.

Millions of Daves, why the hell not, we all have to start somewhere. I took a friend up to ballinastoe this afternoon, He's an absolute beginner and found it really hard going. The sleet, rain and puddles certainly didnt help there. 2 hours 40mins thats how long it took so you can only imagine how cold we got, but it didnt matter to him how long it took he was happy to finish. What a great facility, pity there is not a bit more of it going around.

I must admit I felt like the ultimate uber goober today going around on a six inch bike, had to make my own beeping sounds though.
Ballinatoastie is like those blue fly zappers in restaurants, the flys are drawn in and get zapped while the canny rats get all the good stuff after the shift. We are the canny rats.
Think about it, it's deep, or doesn't make sense, I think, or something.
I only have one problem with these people..
and thats their abuse of the trails..theres hordes of them out there and they come across a trail that somebody has built.
Somebody who broke their bollix getting to the forest and dug and scraped out a trail.
Spent time they had , digging instead of riding.
You know what its like when you are out with me. I started it in the White Knuckle Club, Continued it in MAD ( phase1) with Robin it was a big thing in Team -Worc..continued it with Sean and Bruce in EPIC, its like the whole middle ring thing..its EPIC
you make a trail..it goes this way..then that way..heres a big rock..heres a root..
they are the challenge..get up the rock, get over the root..
turn the corner , get around the berm without slowing down..dab and you are less.
Thats what we do..that what makes us better.
Thats what Mountainbiking is about, getting better.
getting better does not mean destroying the trail by riding around the obstacle or pulling it down.
you ride it till you can, simple, easy to understand.
Because our trails are illegal we get no credit, but these ****ers think its ok to ride them without even giving us the nod.
I was a climber once and 99.9% of the routes i did I knew the name of the guy who put it up.
the other .1 % were mine.
i cared enough to acknowledge the brave and committed person who did it the very first time. So did every other climber I knew.
I still do.
There are obvious ****ers out there who have no respect..we see it in the leadmines ,Ballinastoe and even Djouce and Benchcut.
i would not like to think for one minute that their are EPIC members who would pull down or barge around a section of track that somebody went to the effort of buildling to challenge themselves and the others that followed.
I don't like Benchcut that much, I hate slow corners, but out of respect to Robin who built it, i do my best to ride it clean every time.
because thats what it deserves and thats the way he built it, if i have to dab or walk then thats my problem and my weakness.
Imagine a downhill track , where people who couldn't do the jumps pulled them down or avoided them completely .
theres a line in Cloon that avoids the Jumps altogether..
come on..if you can't do the 1st and 3rd jump in the sequence ..you need to keep practicing till you can..
the middle one, ok thats a tad tricky !!
But i'm sure you get what i'm saying.
