Now folks, we need to run an event this year. We need something to focus all the brilliant members we have on something great. We need a venue, preferable a park style one near Dublin. Theres various reasons for this mainly due to ease of access from where most of us live and work. Regardless of where it is , we need one, we need to get it sorted soon.
We're counting on this. Regardless of what we might think or promises made by outside agencies , Coillte will never give us a permit.
We don't need a mountain or even a forest, we have a ton of imaginative people, we can put together a fantastic race without an amazing venue.

Whats the story with public parks?
The likes of Bushy park in Rathfarnham or St Annes in Raheny have plenty of room and enough up and downs to make a good track.
Phoenix Park would be brilliant for an XC Eliminator style race, close to city centre, perfect layout, but the Park Ranger is not open to MTB events and its there 100 year anniversary thing going on with all of the old Dublin parklands..
Corkaigh Park is open to road style events, Off-road not so sure?
There are grounds near where I live in the old Belcamp College which would be perfect, only 2mins from the M50, though I think it's now owned by Nama :-\ Though I can try and confirm this..
We need people with contacts, relatives, business contacts, friends of friends who may be in the OPW, park rangers, farmers/landowners/quarry owners, or have some sort of influence...

I raced on the curragh before, we also raced on the Sugarloaf ..the sugarloaf would be a brilliant venue for an XC eliminatorif you built it around the GAA Club Duggan used for his DH race..the Curragh is too far away. The Sugarloaf is commonage, I did homework on this before and it was good, its a pity I can't remember it though, bear in mind completely that we got Djouce by pure fluke before. The Forester, Timmy was not up for it, but he promised us Kindlestown then had to give us Djouce becuase the locals objected to Kindlestown.
For a long time before EPIC was formed Ballinastoe was the only venue they would give us. We have always struggled badly for Venues in Dublin/Wicklow. Apparently MAD have been given the nod that they might get the sniff of a chance for a permit..but my sources say its not likely.
This situation might feel like a big black hole but its not the first time I've seen this.
I got Killruddery though John Pennefather back in 1992, after Timmy had a conniption over a race we ran in Crone that his Boss who Mike Jordan knew gave us the permit. We also ran a race on Seehan because Robin rang the guy and he didn't understand what we wanted and just said yeah..
I one ran a race in the Devils Glen where Tiglin was , there was a Youth Hostel there..turned out we never had Permission for that either !! the Guy whose job it was to get permission was too scared to tell me that we hadn't gotten permission and we just turned up ! we never knew for ages after when the warden of the Hostel rang me and was freaking out ..
its never ever been easy to get a venue, Killruddery was easy, The Earl of Meath was just sound.
Kaz is too mental to depend on.
Somewhere else like Kilruddery would be amazing. Cuchulainn were fecked out of Carlingford forest by Coillte. The problem with Coillte is that they just find MTB a bloody nuisance, the only reason they are building trail centers and talking to MBI and people like that is because they have a terrible PR rep and want to look like they are engaging us.
The present situation with Coillte is frustrating. When we were dealing with the Tree felling Foresters we were grand, they didn't give a fiddlers once we didn't burn the place down or put nails in the trees.
Its only since the bloody Recreational League led by Bill and Daithi who should technically be on our side got involved things have went tits up.
We might think things are bad for us with them but one of these days they will cop on to the Uplift situation at DH Races then all hell will break loose. And no they havent twigged it yet, it took years in the UK for them to catch on so theres no reason to think our lot have here.
The councils have shown an interest but then they get sidetracked by their financial problems and put us on the back burner.
The Sugarloaf would be superb on the east side if we could be guarenteed the weather..couple that with the GAA club parking and you're laughing
theres some climbing in Dunran alright..I cant remember, much about it, I was there before though, the other big house in Annamoe, is that the Stud Farm ? the one on the left heading into Laragh.
