I have to say, since we began the long road to XC Domination, I have waited for John Doris to win that poxy title..and as for Alfie, since I first realised he was deadly, hes had a few ups and downs and near misses and now right when hes at his busiest and most stressful he runs away with the National Champs Title..
But not only that we get a full podium of ladies and two brilliant youth winners..Dave Conroy and Ross Ennis ..

you realise now that the entire club has to go to the CI Prizegiving Dinner !! oh yeah..we'll take over that party !! thats when the Lads get their real medals and their Jerseys..
Next up is the Marathon champs, now I realise theres other events in the meantime but there are national Jerseys and medals at that too..so get training !!

Well said Rob, great day for the club. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the support all around the course was fantastic. Alfies result is well deserved, he's on fire at the moment, don't know how he does it with his work commitments. Micky, Colm, John and all the other Epic riders did the club proud. Max is a funny guy, the pit area was brilliant. As for the race I didn't click with the new trails, but looked forward the familiar sections on each lap. It was a struggle, the look on Richies face when I limped by on the last lap, he looked so disappointed in me!
Well done Robin, he makes it look so easy when as anyone who raced today will testify, it is anything but.
I can't believe I got 16th after changing my rear wheel twice :) happy days ... And the epic wolf pack made the day what a bunch the chants and band on xtc deadly .... And the tent was the bliss thanks max !!
What a day! After last Thursdays race , I knew Alfie was going to win. A big thanks to the support and pit crew, you certainly made the day.

Oustanding... Absolutely outstanding, two titles by two real MTB'rs. Delighted for John, that title's been a long time coming. The pit zone was fantastic, thanks Shona for doing bottles and bbq. The support around the course was fantastic too. Well done EPIC
its a funny old world..when I started EPIC I was turning my back on XC, I was in to Downhill and Freeride but I saw such potential in Alfie and Damo , I changed the philosophy of the club to suit it. Bruce once told me, only I could make people like Cross Country racing..well , I guess thats true to a certain extent but the reality is that Nature abhors a void..XC is the hardest of the MTB disciplines, theres no hiding from the effort, your excuses mean nothing.
Its one man and one track and people grow to suit it.
I have never been more proud of EPIC. I invited some non cyclists friends along and they were amazed by the CLub..Clubs are hard work, they have their ups and their downs .
I would like to personally thank Stephen Pollock , who is one of our most recent members, he gave me food for thought and an insight into what makes EPIC so frickin deadly but all of you guys are brilliant. So well done.
Big thanks to Shona et all for doing my bottles,and to everbody on course,no mater what club you belong too who shouted out support to me,it all was heard and helped me over the line!!I turned up today wanting to go home,the techy course didnt suit me,my racing year in NPS was crap,my Thurs club league placings were brutal with a load off DNF's!!Yet somehow I got 2nd in Vets behind the great J Doris,and ahead off some serious mtb riders,whose results over the years show them to be proper contenders. On a personal note,Im delighted for Doris on his win,plus Alf in Masters,well deserved,plus a well earned 2nd in Masters for Northie Colm,I taught him all he know's in NPS S2 the past 2 years!! Send my fee in the post!!LOL And a quick note to all in Epic MTB,if you want to win races You have to do the Tues night savage spins,leave at 6.45 with Richie and ride at his pace,get dropped,try again next week,leaving early at 6.30pm wont help you!! I was a 40 yr old goober in June 2009 when I did a MTB intro spin with Richie and Epic,I did every spin and race that Richie ordered,bullied or told me to do,it worked for me today,and his "style" off training works for me.
A massive well done to all who raced yesterday, rode the course on saturday and its a tough little course so finishing is a great achievement. Delighted for Alfie and John on getting well deserved National Champion titles, Colm and Micky amazing results so well done.
