I heard through the grapevine that some of the horse riding yards that use Carrick are worried about the amount of bikers using the place after the gravity enduro - up until recently they pretty much had the place to themselves. They pay a licence to Coillte to use the forest so its in our best interests to keep the relationship good so the horseriding crowd don't have a problem with us. The place is massive so no reason why everyone can't co-exist there.
Just be smart when you encounter horses there - stop and wait at the side of the track for them to pass. Don't cycle up behind them cause the horses don't hear you approaching and they can spook.
Also they mostly use the fireroads around the end of stage 1 (near the Ballylusk entrance) on Sunday mornings (late morning) and also that side of the mountain generally on Saturday mornings. So just keep your eyes open for them and we shouldn't have any problems.
