Hi All,

I’ll start by saying that I’m not on the committee (and what follows below is not based on talking to anyone on the committee) and my involvement in organising the club gear for 2016 has been limited to trying to make it easier for people to place their order BUT…

To date we have (as of this afternoon) just managed to reach the minimum order quantity (10) for the club short sleeve jersey. The deadline for ordering gear is tomorrow. The way it is looking, we might be able to order the short sleeve jersey’s and the bib-shorts. The latter will, by the look of it, only be possible if the club buys three pairs of shorts and sells them on to members over the year. My understanding is that, if the club were to make up the minimum orders for Gilets, Enduro tops and Jackets it would effectively empty the bank account, i.e. this really is not an option.

The low number of orders points to a basic question and raises a particular issue. The basic question is whether you want club gear at all? I know that there are people who have indicated that they will order something but have not had a chance to do so yet. I appreciate that everyone is busy so, to help us decide on whether we should extend the order deadline by a week, post here letting us know if you intend to order something. If there is sufficient interest, we will extend the deadline for orders by a week.

There is an important issue that may not be self-evident to everyone: The club has received money from sponsors who’s names and logos are placed on the club gear. The reason that they sponsor the club is to get their brand in front of people. If it were understood by these businesses that this will not happen they would, rightly, conclude that we are not worth sponsoring. Those of you who were at the AGM last year will recall that the sponsor’s money is to be used to help develop the club’s profile and image. Based on the low number of orders to date, a sponsor would have to conclude that this is not a club worth sponsoring.

15 individual orders (i.e. 15 members from an active population of roughly 60 people?)

PS. I have posted this (rant) in the members only section because it does not present the club in a positive light.

I think most of the club bought gear last year, so maybe it's an affordability issue, if you paid 120Euro for top and shorts last year, then it's likely that people cant afford to pay out for the same gear again this year, especially when last year's is still in good nick

I figure that this may well be an issue and it is very understandable. However, if it is then the obvious response is to order gear every other year (which is obviously problematic for new members)

I'd love club gear but have to echo what Erica has said...


I know we don't as a club have the money that bigger clubs have as ideally the club would purchase jerseys, shorts etc so members could buy during the year...

I also think as part of anyone joining the club and going on spins should have to purchase a jersey and shorts as part of the membership...


Though I also think there's a general apathetic attitude amongst the 60 signed up members to the club, and I'm basing this on the numbers who post up on the forum and go on club spins....

All, I am trying to say this without being draconian. Ben's put a lot of effort into arranging club gear and so far our response is poor (I had typed crap).

The jersey is the primary club public image and as someone involved with teams and clubs all my life, I really can't understand why more orders are not in. Yes there's a cost and I understand most members have legacy gear already.

If you're going out on spins its expected that you have wear the EPIC MTB club gear at every opportunity.

Can you please order at least one top, its priced at cost, there's no margin and its top quality.

Heya im ordering a jersey tonight if I can do so online which i think I read here a few weeks ago I can - my jersey from last year got a tad wrecked from my amazing falling skills last year so can't wait to purchase a shiny new one, nice one Ben : )

Couldn't resist a gilet too woop

Over the last few years I have bought 3 jerseys, 2 pairs of bib-shorts, a long sleeved jersey and a gillet – probably around €400 worth of gear – I DON’T NEED ANY MORE! Last Autumn there was a thread on this forum discussing the possibility of new gear, the overwhelming consensus was that people were content with the gear they had and there was no need to order more – yet here we are!

Echo that.

Id like some gear but havent budgeted for it this month

28 separate orders have been placed online and I know that there are a few more with Alfie.

Breakdown is as follows:

20 Jerseys (I think!)
6 Jackets
6 Enduro Tops
10 Gilet
14 Shorts

There were a load of PayPal orders yesterday which I will issue tonight.

Haven't been able to check the samples to ensure i'm getting the correct size, with the move of Expert Cycles and all, so would be good to have an extra week before the orders go into the manufacturer?
