Looking like I may have to retire my trusty Pivot... discovered a crack in the frame yesterday after the spin. It's caused by the brake cable rubbing and it's manage to cut through.
Thought I'd tap into the knowledge here:
1. Is this now a death trap?
2. Is it fixable, and does anyone know who's best to go to for this? I've tried one lad in Palmerstown but he won't do MTB, one other lad in Greystones is yet to respond
3. Does anyone have a spare bike I could borrow for a few weeks? Size medium!
I'm sorry to see your problem with the frame . I'd say the safety and security are comprised ... are you in the market for v good second hand . I know of a class machine my neighbour was selling?

Anyway, looks like an easy fix to me as long as there are no cracks in the layup, any carbon repair place should be able to patch it up. There are a few places around but I'm not up to date, just ask around on Facebook?

Anyway it was time to move up to a 29er, must be the last person in the club still rolling on 26ers, even if it is a class bike! Still want to get it fixed so will have a mooch on FB, Carbontec in Palmerstown knocked me back already - doesn't do MTB just road / tri.
There was a friend of james the other night on a canyon ht and he had done his own. I remember byrner had a worn chainstay and you could nearly get your little finger into it. He kept riding it for ages. In saying all that you donât want it breaking on you as could have an awful crash
It doesn't at all feel like the frame is compromised, feels very sturdy - to be honest it's probably been like that for the summer. But the stories of crashes from frames braking are bit unsettling. Cycleplus in Greystones does them, hopefully Max is right and it's an easy enough fix.
Still don't think i'm going to risk riding it, just need to sneak it over the border to Wickla - I'm sure that qualifies as essential travel :)
Jesus nev that's some hole. I rode my carbon hard tail with a cracked chainstay for a while but I wouldn't risk it where yours is.... if that were to fail on steep drop you'd proper smash yourself. Think you've got your moneys worth outta that bike.

However it does seem that the Pivot will live on - the mechanic in CyclePlus seems a bit of a whizz with the carbon, while it's bad and pretty lethal in it's current state it's a straightforward job and (unless he uncovers something fatal, fingers x'd), it'll be up and running the following weekend.

You should have gotten yourself a more modern machine at least four years ago!
Now you have the perfect excuse.
To be fair though the damage doesn't look that bad its only really if the carbon cracks or starts to fray or peel that your in real trouble
