Hi all,was just reading the AGM report about how the club membership was down 35 members from the previous year.So to start the ball rolling I just renewed my CI license and paid my Epic club membership there this evening.
Hopefully we can get to some kind of normal in 2021 regarding club spins,club league and open racing across all the discipline's.

Micky, thanks for posting. Now more than ever, we need members who get involved (go on a spin now that we can, better still, organise a spin and get people out enjoying the trails) or get involved in helping out in the coming months. The committee are working on events for the new year. Having successfully run the league this year we will be (subject to public health guidelines etc. Etc.) running it from mid April onwards. We are playing around with a few ideas to add in a bit of variation (add in a longer lap every few weeks, hill climbs, running the race on the course in reverse...). Nothing is set in stone so, chip in any ideas below (or email, message, carrier pigeon, whatever) and letâs have a great year.
If everything improves next year, weâll look at organizing an event (xc/cx race?) but weâll have a meeting (with pizza and beer) to discuss that some sunny evening after a race.
Is there any pushback on CI regarding the 2021 licence costs? Should there be?
You would think they would give a discount. Like we got zero use out of our membership for 2020 and maybe im missing something but would think they would acknowledge it.
I sat in on the CI AGM a few months back. The membership fee was a topic of discussion and vote. According to the Treasurers report CIs financial position is not great. Basically, they have a load of fixed outgoings and their main source of cash didnât happen (the Dublin Bike Ride).
Whilst all the NPS and CX races
were canceled and there were restrictions on most of the road races. Though it is cold comfort, we did have club races which are covered by CIs insurance. Given that Epic could not run the League without CI itâs probably best in the current climate to think of your LC license fee as covering 14 - 16 (league) races.
Anyone not sure if theyâre racing this year could just apply for a leisure license now. For the league you would need to upgrade to an LC license.
CI tell me itâs â¬40 to upgrade later, so no penalty. Can anyone who has upgraded like this before confirm?

I upgraded mid-year a couple of times without issue.
Remember your CI insurance will expire soon. CI have extended the 2020 insurance to cover this weekend, but youâll need to renew your license for cover in 2021.
we are extending members insurance cover until *midnight on the 4th of January 2021, so if any members have trouble renewing prior to the 31st they will still be ok to get out on club cycle in the first few days of the new year!
