Wicklow Way "upgrade"

The new section of wicklow way from Killmashogue fireroad up to the top of the wokka's is the biggest load of boll*x I've ever seen, this has been driving me mad for a while now, don't get me wrong, it's all rideable but it's just badly designed, a waste of money and I think it's a fairly clear anti-mtb statement.

Why is it 4 foot up in the air, how much water are they expecting ?
Why aren't the gaps bridged with slabs and boulders with narrow gaps so MX'rs can't get through
Most of the drainage gaps are rideable but one or two are just stupid
What was wrong with the old track ?
The short steps are a pox to climb (there's small rocks at the side that will bed in with time so they should be better)
There's no support at the sides of the trail so it's fading away into a little narrow humped track in loads of places

Do walkers actually like this sterilised crap ?

If you're going to build it then do it right, the MX'rs are still getting onto it, there's big acceleration ruts all the way up it, who designed it ?

Tibbradden is a lot better than this track, at least it's all ridable, but I still hate it

The only saving grace is that being typically Irish it will never see any repair work and gradually degrade into a state where it will all be rideable (ridable ?) again.

The only way over 3 rock that's worth doing now is up Fairy and straight down to the wokka's
And what about the new section of path on the miners track just after the bridge and before the switchbacks, it looks like Diarmuid Gavin has been at work on a manicured path with a few tonnes on pebbles. Just as well we are not allowed to ride there. If this is progress I'm all agin it.
I like it..its fast its clean and theres no puddles..and its gets you to the better trails quicker..when you spend as much time on the bike and in the Winter in all weathers as i do, you appreciate the relief these trails provide. I definitely don't think i'm too cool to like these trails, I think they are great and as long as they build them to replace previously miserable puddle strewn mud pots, then I'm happy, the view remains the same, the lack of messing getting speed up on the track and the little bit of skill you need to get over the gaps at speed is excellent. Alfie and me can clear all those steps at speed and love it..its fast and deadly
try 3 months night riding in the depths of Winter and you'll learn to love that track ..and I'd say theres a tiny handful of people who can clear that track all the way up from 3 rock to Fairy Castle..when theres not a river running down it, are we supposed to enjoy ****e miserable trails because we're Irish or are we clever enough to see these additions for what they are..personally I've a pain in me bollix with scruffy sloppy trails full of mud and where you have to drag you and your bike through..

I just think if you're going to do it then do it right, the Tibbradden trail is a lot better than the 3 rock one, I only rode the 3 rock one for the first time yesterday because I've been going up over fairy the last few times through there and I think it's poxy, now, fair enough, I was slowing down for the gaps because I couldn't see what I was riding into and you defo need speed to get across them, I rode it from the giant steps down the bottom of it.

And I agree that it's great to have a nice hard, drained trail to ride through but if any thought had been put into it in could have been made much more sustainable, natural looking and kept the trail open to the friendly users like all of us.

I've never seen a trail like this in Scotland, Wales, France, America where they have sustainable trails that stay in resonable shape.
but are these not for the walkers ? Sorry, i just have a pain in me bollix with the mud and the rain and you just made me rant..thanks for helping me let off steam, you're right they should be built better..and the Scobie Mxers hre having a field day on them, Sean would be able to tell you designed it..
Fcuk Sorrento anyway for making me race in Superschlomp, now my tolerance for puddles is completely gone..
I fcukin really hate puddles..
Cheers Richie
You know what it is about it..... it's just not mountainbiking

It's like the trail centres, they're great, the serve a purpose, but they're just not really mountainbiking

And it's not that I can't ride it, I just get bored, 20 pedal strokes, hop, 20 more pedal strokes hop....

BUT... I do like the rocks going down into Curtlestown except for the vary top where it's like having square wheels.

Ahh whatever... bongo bongo
yeah we should..jeezus that feckin section of the Blast the Sorrento eejits used sucked the life out of me..and ruined any tolerance of mud I had..I think riding it for the craic would have been ok, but trying to race on it just broke my heart..grrrrrrrrrrrr..i need a few weeks of dry trails..just a few..
please Jeebus..please, i'll be good ..i promise
The middle carpark in Djouce to XTC, now that's a larf. It's just what you need at the end of a hard, sliddery spin, endless, deep puddles of muddy, rancid water, the kind that will kill you if you drink it and leave you stinking like a Frenchman.
sut up Don, even thinking about it is making me angry..inanyways what do you care, when you do ride your bike you only go to Djouce or Ballinastoe so you deserve what you get , how do you like that bile , eh eh eh eh !!!
Here .. Byrner .. now that you're a qualified coach do you think that you can teach me to get over those gaps without breaking my other shoulder or my bike???

You won't get a sensible answer out of him, he's having one of 'those' days. Anyway, you know that thing you did where you were horizontal to the ground, over the bars, in the air, I wouldn't do that part.
I hate puddles.Went up to the top of djouce mtn via ballinastoe this morning and really enjoyed fast decent back down.Arrived at lugala section of man made trails and gave them a lash .After a few minutes i was soaked and fillty with grit due to lots of deep puddles .This is supposed to be a designed bullet proof track and has now become very worn and rutted and certainly unsafe for beginner biker on basic mtb.I fear there is no money in kitty for repairs which are now badly needed. As far as i know theres a guy assigned to inspecting the trail and reporting damage. If trails get any worse goobers will need their full facers and armour to get around safe on their 6" bikes.Bring back the global warming and dry weather.
