I will be traveling to France for the Mega so trying to get travel insurance sorted that will also cover competitive mountain biking, Any recommendations folks. I have used a few UK insurance companies before for snowboarding and biking holidays, but like an form of insurance its best to ask and shop around for the best deal.. Dave :)

If you have VHI their cover is pretty good Dave - don't know if they would cover "competitive" MTBing though!
Yeh read the small print, some "adventure sports" cover doesn't include "competiton". Also, sometimes it doesn't include the costs of transport from the mountain to the hosp (helicopter etc). If you're getting a lift pass you can buy "carte neige" which covers you for this.

Does you CI licence not cover you for competitions?
i used the aa one and the vhi one for the last 2years at the mega. It covers you for all your riding except the 2 days racing.
