Epic Club Champs 2022 - 630pm - Thur 28th July - Leadmines

Hi All,

Epic are holding its "Champs" race this Thursday in the Leadmines, instead of the usual league night.

It will be a three lap race. The start will be at the usual location. You will be gridded by start time, i.e. those who go normally go off at 19:06 in the league will be on the front row and we will work back from there. There is no handicap, everyone starts at 630pm.

Unlike the regular club course there will be a couple of road crossings

- At the bottom of Section 2
- A second path crossing further down.

Please exercise extreme caution when crossing these paths/roads.

The course will be taped off so you won't take any wrong turns on the extra bits. Course route is attached and is roughly the same as last year (with the new extra bit of section 1 that is used in the league lap).

Donogh has very kindly offered to host a post race gathering at the grounds of his place (Ballycorus Rd). Do come along for beer, pizza, bragging and more.

Quick report from the Champs race last night. Colm McGarvey taking the overall honours in the mens and Sarah in womens. Big congratulations and respect.

Colm not having it all his own way with big hitters snapping at his heels, keeping him honest with good Nationals form.

Race tore off up the hill in the traditional big dust cloud. Similar course to previous years with the long descent and climb added in. You could knock me over with a feather today. Swear I'd done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. That could be the effects of the race or the post race refreshments back at Donogh's place.

Big thanks to the volunteers who made the race possible. The course prep crew. Claire and Hannah on results duty. Mick out on the course on the marshall station. Gary who was entertainment officer for the night, sorting out all the food and drink. Fair play to all. Was a great night I really enjoyed it.

That was a great evening! Thanks a mill to everyone responsible especially for course maintenance, timing, results, marshalling and all the craic! I had a great race with John D and Robert, just managing to get over the line, well done everyone. Thanks as always to Ronan for all the organising, great job all year.
Massive thanks to Donough, Claire & family for hosting us all, was great to catch up with everyone over a few beers.

A killer of an evening on the club champs course but the pizza afterwards was a good reward.
Thanks Ronan, Gary and committee for organising, also to the lads cleaning up the course this week, thankfully the ferns are no longer in attack mode for now!

Great evening's racing. Having the extra section in the lap really messes with my head... feels about twice as long! It's a great addition though.

Had a good race with Jer and Kev. Hot on my heels for the whole thing and keeping the pressure on. I managed to pull a couple of bike lengths away towards the end of the last lap as I didn't want to leave it down to a three way sprint!

Thanks to the organisers and all the trail work.

Brilliant evenings racing, the course was running great. Feel like I raced an nps today! Thanks to everyone who prepped the course and the timers, starters.

I was disappointed with my performance,just did'nt really have any power in the legs.However the after party was brilliant and made up for it.Really great craic sitting in Donough and Claire's lovely back garden,thanks for having us all around.And Gary for getting the food etc.Was great to have Mick doing marshall and giving encouragement as I struggled past too. Its a long lap,almost like a NPS lap,so a tough test.Well done to Sarah and Colm on the wins and too everyone who finished.

Well done to all the racers and congrats to Colm and Sarah on the wins. Tight racing up front with Colm finally getting a small gap and holding it to the end. Thanks to Donough and Claire for having us back to their lovely house and garden and big shout out to Ronan for all the great organisation and to Gary for sorting the grub and beer !

What a night , racing , beer ,pizza and a lot of fun. Big thanks to Donough, Claire , Ronan, Garry and those I have missed....the racers!

Delighted that I finally escaped the grind and got out to see the club champs take place, plenty of forward and backward battles throughout. The rest of the night in Donoughs reminded me of what great bunch of people the club members are, everyone in great form and chatting away while eating and drinking, hard to beat an evening like that.

Big thanks to Donough and family for letting us take over his home and garden for the evening and another big thanks to Ronan for keeping it all together for the league and club champs and as usual brilliant work put in by John W, Muiris, Max and anybody else who helped to get the trails into shape. Thanks everyone.

It was great to have everyone around after the champs, the race was good and the work done by those who cleared the course was mammoth, but personally the beers and pizza stole the show! On the plus side I have enough left over beer to keep me boozing for several weeks and postpone my postponed weight loss sort of plans. Knowing that these beverages are club property I'd encourage you all to call by and share in the true spoils of the club championship night before it's all gone! Maurice, you know where your tasty ales are…. for now…. You'd better come and reclaim them before they disappear… Clare is complaining that we've not got room for food in the fridge…. But I keep reminding her that those silken ales are properly nourishing and there is no need for anything else. It was lovely to have you all up for the chat and you're always welcome if ever in need of a tea, coffee, a chat. Do call in. Finally John Willets has screamed into the lead as our current party champ sitting in until late and supping beers, John Doris had been joint leader in the party animal category until the other night when late on her slipped off the pace allowing John to develop a decent lead… but knowing John he'll never concede and we look forward to next time when the title of club beer hound will be keenly contested yet again… or perhaps a new challenger will emerge????
