I recieved an email today from the offroad commission stating that Dromara CC were proposing to run the XC Champs in 2009.
I saw a message on mtbireland recently where they announced they'd be running it. Now I contacted Cycling ireland straight away when I saw that and they informed me that nobody had bid for the event.
I asked Ross the Club Sec to apply immediately, which he did.
yet when i questioned this decision the Commission is telling me and others that the National XCchamps is ran one year up " North " and then " South " the next year.
I've never heard of this, have any of you ?
In 2007 we applied for the XC Champs and Team-Worc got to run it. No problem there, they always run a good event, they have proven that over the years.
This year we put on a brilliant event in Djouce to show that we too, could run a race equal to the standard set by Team-Worc.
In my opinion if all the clubs did that we would have an amazing NPS.
a world class NPS.
I'm pissed off because we didn't even get a fair chance to run the XC Nationals in 2009. no offence to Dromara and its not their fault.
I do not accept the North/South nonsense. I thought we had moved on from that sort of witchcraft.
So i want to know, should EPICmtb get a fair crack at running the XC nationals ?
I don't give a fiddlers about North/South/East/West..if you can show you can run a top class event then it doesn't matter where on this Island.
I'm asking this question because I don't think this attitude helps the sport, the standard was raised by the K Capital Cup. thats not going to happen next year, so are we going to fill the void with events that are decided by geo-political location.
or are we going to go with a Club with a proven track record.

well its obvious to me nobody gives a toss if we run the XC Nationals next year, I have spent the morning arguing the case with Messers Potts and Seymour without any success. So i'll just give up and run an XC NPS or maybe I'll just let somebody else give a damn.
pretty much as you said, a club needs to demonstrate capability in order to host XC Nationals.
As I see it, your club have definitely done that, to a very professional level, the North/South comment/aspect/descision is stupid and irrelevant.
I can't see why such a prestigious event as the Nationals is, should be hosted by a club who have not demonstrated this capability, again, no offence to Dromara, maybe they could pull it off - but how confident are we that they could do this, without an example?
Why doesn't anything in black and white make sense any more?

I have to agree, there shouldn't be a consideration of a North/South divide. I'm pretty pissed off that after the excellent race we ran last year this is being given out not on merit but locality. So what do we have to do to get it for 2010??? and what if the moon is in the wrong sector of the sky does that mean it has to go south east...

Organises DH events
Organises MTB trips
Runs quality NPS races & BLAST
Regular weekly spins & weekend spins
Trail building & trail maintenance
Night riding throughout the winter months
Yeah where do I sign up to complain... I'm a bitter n twisted has-been too... and I'm full of hot air... I won't lift a finger unless its for my own benefit... but I've got loads of opinions on things that other people say and do... I love to bask in other people's limelight and contribute little or nothing in return...

I understand you frustration Richie... especially when it goes to a club with no track record(no offence to them). This sport is all about who you know, not what you prove. I think we know EPIC will always be the bridesmaid.
Next season is already down by the K-Capital... why is this? It appears to me as if it was only there for 3 people to compete for olympic qualification. if so, why did the rest of us bother supporting it? I hope I am wrong....
to be fair Mr Fecker, we attended because we like to race XC, the Courses were deadly and most of all we like structure to our racing. The K Capital Cup raised the level of the races, I didn't care about the Olympics we all knew who was going to win anyway.
But to me, somebody who has spent years trying to raise the standard of the XC Nationals seeing the Nationals just given away to a relatively unknown club, frustrates me, I can't accept that North /South nonsense, Andy Potts has accused me of not liking the North, or being Anti-North, I am going to make an official complaint about that.
I am anti-****e racing..nothing else..
I was one of the original members of team-Worc and Robin got that going with Joe and Giller so we could run top class events.
Now here we are letting clubs run events based on their location rather than there ability,

Who exactly gets to decide when and where the champs go to ??
Meritoxracy is not something usually practiced in irish cycling, It does seem to be more about who and how much $$$$$, I certainly think the Kcup was designed for points harvesting for certain riders and the rest of us were fillers, Makes me question why and where I race sometimes. I did race and enjoyed the Kcups, But feel im just a number and don't really count.
Seeing as the only people arguing with me are Geoff Seymour and Andy potts, I doubt anybody else is involved with the decision. I was on the Commission several times and I never heard of that rule

Point taken, but why raise the bar, and then pull the plug. The K-Capital was great.. Fair play to all involved. Great to see riders from abroad travel to it too...
Maybe if it was too time consuming, other clubs could help with some legs.
