Greetings to you, our fellow disciples of the rad
Since MADMTB were prevented from running our planned events this year, we thought it only right that we give a bit back to our friends in the various clubs who are running races etc..
So, we are pleased to announce our two new trails:
Legend and LegenDH are now ready to receive visitors.
Note that these trails are very fresh, I think there's only been 4 or 5 riders down them once or twice, and thus will need a decent bedding in, so just be a bit careful as a few spots are a bit spongy and we don't want you to go lamping yourself (well, not too badly).
The two trails are located on the Tibradden side of 3Rock.
Just to give you an idea, here's a link to a Garmin trace showing the trail as a part of a recent spin.
Note on this spin, we had also done the trail in reverse after hitting Tibradden just to see what it was like and also to get a shot on LegenDH, we're going to be building a proper return loop so will let ye know when that's done.
They both currently share the same entrance - the entrance is just off the Tibradden walking path on your left as you are going in the direction of Tibradden.
It's up near to where the forest ends on the left and looks like this:
We may change this entrance at a later stage to keep off the walking trail completely but that's another few days work.
LegenDH (originally deemed to be a more downhilly-type trail, but due to impassable bog-sections, it ended up being a bit more of an XC trail) essentially is the trail you would take if you wanted to bypass the gulley & gate at the Woccas at exit at the same sarea you normally would.
When you enter the forest - you will bear LEFT at the Y-junction.
It's about 1000m long, and exits just onto the WW path opposite where you turn left to go down onto the road.
There's a few jumps in it - though we're needing to tweak them a bit to make them work properly.
The lower section is steep enough for a laugh just look out for the rocks cunningly disguised as lumps of grassy moss.
Legend itself is about 2900m long, and is a feckin' beauty - some great views over to Cruagh from it.
When you enter the forest - you will bear RIGHT at the Y-junction.
You bear right in the forest (soon after the entrance from Tibradden path)
which brings you out into open heather (needs a bit more trimming etc.. but you should get through it fine - watch out for some hidden pointy rocks!)
Then you're into an off-camber forest section, out onto a bright grassy path, then back into more darker fast forest with crafty roots and some more slight off-camber.
Out into a really nice open section with some lovely old trees loosely dotted about the place.
Watch out for the "huck-to-muck" as it's pretty sliddery & sketchy and we've yet to add a bok-bok line around it.
We're going to line the huck with logs to make it nicer - should be done this week at some stage.
Then into more forest with some swooping lines and ledges (watch out for the swoop down which had a tree dead-centre at the exit - make up your mind which way to go past it before you drop down)
Then a exit out and up a sharp kicker to bring you along a doubletracked felled section.
One or two berms & a small jump at the end to entertain you, then into a short section of bulldozed path, in through the gap in the bank on the left, through the ferny path, then into a short fast forest section, down and across the big gulley, into more forest and then transition through grassy sections and trees until you hit the path that comes up from Tibradden car park.
When you hit this path, (or ideally just before you get to it - as there's rocks hiding in the grass) you turn very sharp left which brings you along a fence (small house down on the right) and then down the grassy path and onto the Ballybrack road - pointing in the direction of Glencullen.
Don't get knocked down when exiting onto the road for feck's sake.
Soon, we will have a return loop where instead of turning left, you'll climb right and up onto the old "green road", across the top of the felled section, then down the original Legend (built by Joe, Robin and the gang some years back) and eventually switchbacking down onto the road not too far from the WW exit.
