I'll be attempting to cycle the whole WW this Saturday, starting at Marley park at 8.00 a.m.
I'm doing this solo so I can go at the pace that suits me. However, if anyone wants to come along and ride a part of it with me you're welcome.
I'll be going fairly slow and steady, no stopping though (at least until Glendo/Glenmalure).
Also, if anyone has any tips about the 2nd part of the WW (after Glenmalure) let me know. I've never been that far out that direction.
The weather is supposed to be OK so hopefully I'll make it and will have a nice report for you the day after.
good luck Maxy
If you are worried about getting lost, you could borrow my Garmin and I could see if Ryan still has his Garmin trace of the route from last year, load the route into it and then you just follow the line....
Best of luck, this is obvious but keep a very sharp eye out for the wee yellow man poles. These are nearly always at junctions but occasionally the trial will shoot off up into some trees off to the right and on a bike going downhill this is where you will overshoot the turn.
This happens after Ballinastoe, after Glenmalure and probably further down as well.
If you check a map before going the exact places might be easy to spot.
It's a great day out, enjoy!
Good luck with it - the trails seem to be pretty dry at the moment which will help a lot for the second half of the course. 2nd half is pretty straight forward but it is a good idea to not go too hard on the early big mountains.
Have a good selection of food available from your support dude. Towards the end when I did it, we ran out of gels (which are easy to take) and only had bars that I felt I was munching on for hours.
There is a great Indian in Baltinglass for the way home :)
Covers pretty much everything I picked up along the way - be happy that you wont have to wade through knee deep mud! That was soul destroying after 6 hours on the bike!
Thanks Ryan, I'm not going for the record just want to cycle the whole thing as I always wanted to do it (well, since I started MTBing in Ireland).
The weather should be OK but even a few showers won't do much harm at this stage, it's been fairly dry lately.
