Tuesday 11th, 6.30pm, Foxrock Church - Road Spin

Everybody is welcome but we will be keeping the pace at a decent, steady level from start to finish. Most of last weeks problems were caused by constantly changing pace leading to a really messy spin! You have got to be prepared to ride at a steady 25-26kph and to hold onto the the wheel in front!
It takes a bit of getting used to but it's very satisfying when it goes right!!!
Nice one Richard, I have absolutely no problem being up the front all the way to Winegates with John or Ken ..We can manage it but on the Enniskerry Scalp Road we need to be completely in 2s..
Just stay in twos the whole way from Ambrose Glass to the bends..if somebody is falling off the back, just let a roar..if you are weaker than the rest , the best place is in the middle.
If you are terrified of being dropped and are struggling just let us know, we can work you in to the group and sort that out. the strongest should be at the front and at the rear , to keep the bunch together.
You should also try to maintain your pace as much as possible, there will always be fluctuations in the pace as the people in front avoid holes and deadl with inclines ,etc. You have to be on the ball.
There was way too much yapping going on in the dark spots like the Enniskerry road and Rathmichael.
Be prepared for the Ambrose Glass climb. its harder than you think and has two false crests.
If you are a novice, everybody bar me, Damo, Richard, Ken and John Doris don't sit behind other novices..
Some of you are in such a panic you are switching because the guy in front of you is braking..remember he is braking because he is seeing stuff you are not. If a space appears beside you and the outside line is getting away and you fancy moving in to it , just give a quick indication you are going there. Just remember if you are going to switch and on these spins I highly recommend that you don't do it without hesitating and positively.
THe N11 from the Bridge is a steady climb too, pace yourself. It is not a race and you do not need to be up the front. Sit in, enjoy the pace thats going. Richard or I will tell you what to do .
Try to keep as close to the rider in front of you ( his rear wheel) and don't push it.Change gear and spin.
THe object of the spin is to ride as far and as fast as possible smoothly with the stronger more experienced riders doing most of the work. 25kph is a very good pace and manageable by everybody.
If you feel stressed let me know I'll sort you out.
Theres absolutely no need to bury yourself.
These spins are as much a social thing as anything. We can do our up and overs on the way home from Delgany on the N11 and they are great for that sense of speed and achievement. After Christmas I am going to run an EPIC meat grinder on the Tuesday and the Road spin on the Thursday. I strongly recommend that you bear this in mind.
The Meat Grinder will continue until march and the clocks go forward..then its MTB only except Wednesdays when I run a massive road spin , just for kicks..
... yes! its not rocket science... keep the speed at a decent level, spend 30sec max up the front (on right side) and move over to the inside line and repeat for 2hrs!! with the exception of places such as top of Windgates, pre Delgany and Delgany to N11 where we really should be in single file. I agree with Richie, these are great social spins for the winter but we're not in the pub here, it is supposed to be a bit of a training spin so maybe a little more focus needed.... I do notice people are a bit reluctant to ride up close on the guy in front's wheel but the further away you ride from the guy in front the more tiring the spin will be for you... just needs to be practiced remembering always keep a finger on the brakes just in case!
