Epic Road

Ok, the 2009 road racing season is fast approaching and I have had a number of requests from Epic members who are interested in racing this year.

So to get the ball rolling in preparation for upcoming events; there will be a road spin every Saturday starting from Palmers Pub at 10am (beginning this weekend). These spins will be about 3 hours long. The pace will be steady enough.

Details of the 2009 road calendar can be found here: http://www.cyclingireland.ie/html/si...ling%20Ireland
But it's so unbelievably boring, why?

On a more serious note, how do whammy's work out on a road bike?

Very painful; resulting in missing front teeth and broken noses.
Just a thought I had... Was thinking of setting up some sort of impromptu hillclimb time trial some time in the next few weeks. Say one of the 15-25 minute climbs around (or possibly the same course as Worc use for their Extreme Hill Climb (Eniskerrry to Kippure - this time of the year, it really is extreme).

Just an idea that I had - you may hear more for me in a few weeks about it.

As for road been boring - well sometimes, and sometimes not. I was on a road last week and for the first time on a road bike was really scared. It was about 14% gradient, 2km straight and perfect tarmac. I hit 80, (I'd say was on the way to 100), got hit by a cross wind, crapped myself and slowed down. That was my excitement for the day :)
I can't emphisise lads how good road training is for building early year leg power for the racing season ahead, if your wanting to go fast on a xc bike, This is something every racer should be doing often, Yes if can be abit mundane when training be yourself, But is great for the banter with a good group spin. I won't be there myself, due to working, But I get my road miles in on week days. Ryan's hillclimb races sound fetching though.
Yeah Ryan, I would definetly be on for a hillclimb TT - I'm sure there would be a good few interested in this.

The same route as the Worc Hillclimb would be perfect. Reckon it'd be a bit of a challenge to get all the way to the mast at Kippure around this time of year though.

We'll be doing the Glencree-Kippure route on Saturday.
Eniskerrry to Kippure on a road bike?

Sorry, I am having my teeth pared with a rusty, electrified file that day, otherwise I’d be there.
I went road riding last night, terrible dangerous had a bottle of lucosade ****ed at me from a toyota starlit
