What's involved in the interval training sessions Dave?
Hi Kieran, the emphasis is on 'steady'. these are not 'blow your lights' spins. You want to be pushing but not to the point that you can't do the last climb. If you have a heart rate monitor you want to be just under your threshold (the average HR form the last time you did an intense session on the bike over 20 minutes long).
Somebody who has been seriously training for a while will do the entire set of intervals in well under two hours whereas I take 2 hours. It is important that you do these at your pace not someone else's- don't get disheartened if you see the lads disappear off over the horizon and don't see them again for the evening (this is what happens to me every week).
You should come out and try them and see how far you go - I think that you will surprise yourself if you take them at your own pace. Keep doing them and you will see your time coming down.
The route is as Chris summarised:
Climb 1: Kilmashouge (the epic hill climb) to the mast via the new trail (Euroskepic),
then down Shizel or Metro onto Ticknock Road to the bottom at the m50 flyover,
Climb 2:back up the road and follow the tarmac all the way to the Masts,
down shizel and DreamTrack and
Climb 3: climb up by the blue light, turn at the sign for the riding stables and follow the track up to the Masts - then your done.
