Tuesday 27th Lamb Doyles 6:30pm

Some fun around 3rock! Not as gravity focused as the last one so you'll be fine on any bike. Approximately 2h.

Super night for a spin around the mountains.
Just myself, Max, Colm and Phill out tonight riding the dry and dusty trails around 3Rock.
Unbelievable night for it.

So I broke my collar bone last night whilst CX training. I'm posting here cause I don't want my mother reading this on Facebook!

Firstly, I toyed with the idea of going on the MTB spin (Cleary I should have). Mtb'ing is obviously safer...

What happened: I hit the gas going into the bumps on the CX course in kilternan, had my weight forward and proceeded to shoot into the air. At some point the laws of gravity kicked in and I landed head down on my shoulder. At first I thought that the sound I heard was the helmet taking on a rock but it turns out that that loud cracking noise is the sound of a clavicle snapping into a few pieces.

Why did it happen: simply put, I didn't have lights on the bike and consequently I didn't realise how quick I was going or where I was on the bump leading to what would have been a really cool huck if I could have landed it.

Things I thought about afterwards:
1. I'm winded
2. My helmet did a great job
3. I wonder did I puncture a lung
4. I broke my collar bone (obvious from the bone sticking up)
4.2 my CX season is over
5. Don't pull my left arm when helping me up
6. How am I going to get to the hospital.
7. If I go to hospital they will cut the gear off me (it took ten minutes of serious pain but I managed to get everything off me at home before going to the hospital).
8. If this is a&he on a Tuesday id hate to see it on Thursday or Friday.

Massive thanks to Alfie and Dan for looking after me and everyone else for not making a fuss.
Shitty luck Dave , seems most of us break one sooner or later doing what we do. What's the prognosis ? Does it need a plate /surgery ?

Jeeze Dave, that's real hard luck, and you were flying in the CX and all!

Yeah, I was flying last night alright.

Was it those double humps along the top of the track? Have seen a few people take a tumble there...CX bikes are not great in the air!
