I'll be guiding a gang of Welsh lads on their first of a 5 day charity MTB ride on Wednesday 30th May, which starts in Dublin and finishing somewhere in Wales. Their first stage is from Dublin to Arklow, so I need to reccy some of the route to Glendalough, I'm not that familiar with the route. Also need to see what's suitable, they'll be carrying all their gear on their backs.
I plan on leaving Enniskerry 8am Sunday and finishing in Glendalough at some point, back by road.
Company (and knowledge) welcome while I scope out the route, let me know if anyone is interested in joining or I'll probably start out earlier.
Of course if anyone wants to join on the day, more than welcome also!
The most straight forward route is the Wicklow way it's sign posted and it a great route. There is a few option of trails along the in Ballinastoe and djouce. There is other trails that run close by but are hard to find you'd need to be shown them they would be in glencree laragh and round wood. Another option is to go over scarr and head back to lough Dan now that's a cracker and not too difficult to find your way. Hope this helps
I was having a billy no mates spin from my house into Djouce but bumped into Neville in Djouce doing his Recce.
Ended up having the spin of the feckin year with him; up over the boardwalks to Ballinastoe and followed the Wicklow Way to roundwood village, took in some great new trails Neville knew and then home on the road via coffee and cake in the Ballinastoe coffee shop.. 71K on the clock! what a great sport! what a great countryside! Boomya!
Yep, that was a brilliant spin Rob, was very glad of the company! Such an amazing route. Parked up in Roundwood and cycled back to Enniskerry, dipping in through Djouce. Up to Glencree, along the river up Crone down into powerscourt then up and over Djouce boardwalks. Not sure I really knew the trails from there Rob but followed my nose and found some absolute doozies just off the Wicklow way.
Had everything weather amazing trails bone dry and great banter all the way! Need to do more of these types of adventure spins, 50km 1500m of climbing and an awesome fillet steak for dinner, great day cheers Trenchy!
