That was as much fun as you can have on 2 wheels! What a day and what a fun spin. We covered a whopping 15km in over 3 hours! But the legs were aching as we still hit around 950m of climbing. Steep up, steep down.
Straight up to the top from the car park and down one of Robyn's trails - right at the fork - then avoided ski slope and took the new trail to the right of ski slope instead ( no idea what is called) , that was riding so frickin fast! You know when you're on the verge of being out of control but just manage to stay upright , adrenaline pumping, was awesome! Continued on to the bottom then another big climb back up to the top, this time took the Alpine trail down. What a great trail. At the end of Alpine, at the drop on to the fire road, Rory was in two minds - ride it or walk it. In the end he did neither and had the slowest fall I've ever seen seemed to take a few minutes! At least he could prepare for the landing. Thankfully he was totally fine. Back up the switchbacks of hell, down Robyn's trail, left at the fork, the off camber one. Such fun. Was riding great was pretty dry. Headed to the next trail at the bottom of that one, the one about 50 metres from the bottom with the steep entrance. All headed down like legends. At the bottom I heard Erica coming close behind then I heard a groan of pain, Erica was down. But not a bother just a little elbow scratch. The next trail was a new easy flowy one and, after nailing all the other techy trails, I had two offs, a nice OTB and one at the end. Only pride hurt. And my leg. Nice bruise already.
Back up the switchbacks for the 4th time, think that was everyone's slowest except Sarah who was absolutely flying up the hills. Left us all for dead, serious climbing. Down Alpine again then Mars and all the way to the road at the bottom.
Rory treated us to coffee and chocolate and banana bars at the coffee van. I noticed the others ate half and put the rest away as they were so heavy. I ate mine in about 4 seconds and was contemplating buying a second
Thanks Erica Sarah and Rory for a fantastic spin, really enjoyed it. Crone is so class and great to see new trails up there.
Well, what can I say that Glenn hasn't already said! what a flippin deadly spin! After that first trail, we were on a total buzz. There was a couple of slow motion crashes, but all came out in one piece! Sarah is really smashing the climbs, yapping away, when all I can do is sound like a donkey, and vom in my mouth ha ha. Coffee and cake were delish, thanks again Rory, I was all set for another climb after that, but the others totally chickened out
Absolutely great morning on the bike, really enjoyed that! Great to be led around loads of new trails. Left for dust on the downhills as per usual but was graciously waited for (especially by Rory who waited at all the turns, thank you!)
Coffee and cake at the end (thanks again Rory!) plus the sunny weather was a highlight.
And don't worry Glenn, I scoffed the rest of the cake as soon as I got in the car! Think we need that recipe to make a batch of them for the next spin.
That was a great spin on such a perfect morning for a spin. Trails were excellent even if it took my a while to get going. Sarah was flying on the climbs - I think she was disappointed at the end that we weren't going up again! Thanks Erica and Glen for guiding us around even if you were way ahead of me!! Enjoyable coffee and chats afterwards
