Sunday spin of deadly wetness.

Not every Sunday spin is worthy of a report, but this one was so here it is.

***Disclaimer – Names have been changed to protect the innocent, details have been exaggerated for entertainment value and spelling isn’t frenetic its mentenetic, the way they sound in my head. ***

As soon as we started movin the sky started leaking, it didn’t stop. There was a decent gang, we had the innocent, the not so innocent, the old school, the newbie’s, the inbetweeners, the coalition of the willing and the good old access of evil.

To give them their ‘real’ names, we had: Bren of the Bren’s, Paul of the Cumminses, Brian of the Goonies, Newbie Dave, Shinny bike Dave, Smiley Colm, the Good Mr. Egan, Fairygirl of the Kilkennies, Richard of the L’s and picked up Aimi and Tiny on route. 12 in all, like apostles, but without the Jesus.

Much was made of the savage road spin of horribleness, or as I like to call it, the easy pleasant bit at the start to get to the mountain, and way we got our selves to the pet cemetery and off up through annicrivey, to the track of wide narrowness to get onto the good old way of the Wicklow. Down through Curtlestown, firstly on the path of the rockyness (where there was a disproportionate amount of walking of the bicycles) then down the track of the invisibleness, onto the track of the ferns, then down the track of the Cooney shaped hole in the ferns then out the ferny tract to the bottom. Loads of rocky ferny deadlyness.

We then went off around Knocknacree down to the Hostel, haven’t been down this in years, its turned deadly, will have to go again, but faster next time. Then down the hill of the slippyness, tried to overtake Tiny on the slippyness, was definitely sliding the wrong way around at one stage, my first 180, then off in a heap. Off around the track of the burnt out tenty grassyness and up to Crone.

Miss Baker departed at this point, and off we went up the climb of the longness to the top of de waterfall. Down the mountain mentalers trail (there was an outbreak of the walking again), then up into Djouce (or the forest of the whinging as its now to be called), down Alan’s trail, which thanks to some clearing is back to being the deadliest trail in Wicklow, sidways mayhem breaking out all over the place, if you ride down it that is, I’m not sure what it was like on foot, I’ll have to try it some time.

Up to the middle carpark, where the men with the families had to depart, over the commonage of the horizontal rain. The horizontal rain seamed to finish off all the young lads, obviously unaccustomed to the horizontalness of it. Up around the side of the Sugarloaf, followed the heard of sheep down half of it until they decided to take a left, carried on, realised I should have followed the sheep, 30 yard hike and back onto the track of the fast rocky punctureiness. Down to the bottom to see an eviscerated Bamby, down the last bit of single track and back to the cars.

5 hour spin of deadlyness, raining the whole time, some might use world like death march and cruelty but they would be the soft she-males. We’ll just call it a good old fashioned Sunday Spin. Well done to Dave of the Rustyness, the Fergalator, Niall of the Egan’s and Colm of the Colm’s for completing / surviving the whole thing. And well don to everyone elce for lasting as long as you did. Next time, if the rain isn’t a bad, we won’t take the sort cuts and actually go over the tops of some hills.

Deadly buzz.

Now that's a write up! Nice to see a sunday spin with a whole new route, very creative Mr Fairy. Well done anyone who ventured out on that. I'm glad I didn't, in my current state it would have killed me for sure.
nice report Jesus Minister, I don't know how the hand of God guided you down the second super greased-up section of Alan's trail, we we're looking at you going "nah there's no way he's gonna....Jesus! look at the Minister go..."
I have the slippy jean, it’s a gift.

While we are on the topic of long but deadly, Da Cooley Thriller is on Saturday, 19th September in Carlingford, Co. Louth. 45km around the Cooleys, its long, but deadly, would recommend it, but bring plenty of food and don’t race lads up hills. Some of the single track is brilliant and you get to see a whole new set of mountains. People do have a tendency to get lost, panic, scream at the wind and turn to cannibalism, but that aside its good crack.

Yeh but the Club Championship is on in Djouce on the Sunday - don't think the legs would take two days in a row!
More disappointed than ever that I missed this spin. But it was the time of the year I had to go and see Jesus, which probably explains why he wasn't at the spin either.

Also two hours' sleep and my allowance of Guinness for the 3rd quarter of the year taken in a single night might have rendered me somewhat sub-par for such a spin.

Mr Egan for one is well used to five hours in the rain at this stage.

As for walking on a certain trail, I did that before, quite a lot of it. With a saw in one hand and a loppers in the other. Haven't been up there on the bike since it was cleared!

Well done everyone who survived that spin. Cooley thing sounds quite appealing.
I can safely say that was the longest spin I've been on to date. Fair play Minister.
My rose tinted glasses are well and truly on at this stage so it's a lot easier to say thanks a million for dragging my sorry ass around Wicklow.
I thought the missus would kill me when I got home but to my surprise she was remarkably calm.
She calmly handed me a list of DIY jobs I've been dodging for months and gave me a knowing but menacing wink.
Little said but much understood
Hey I got to do synchronized skids with the Fergalator on Alan's trail too. That track is mental in the wet
yeah - that was like the scene in ET, where the hip kids on the BMX's pull up in a skid, except that we were missing an alien in a basket -we must get an alien in a basket for the next spin, I hear you bust some phat air (dude) if you roll with an alien in a basket ...

Feck it. I've been bustin my nuts trying to learn how to jump my DH bike for the last 2 months and now ya tell me all I needed was a basket and Cummins
