Anybody recommend a light?

I'm looking for a light to hopefully hit the trails after work in the early winter darkness. I obviously need something with plenty of power for that and also a good spread and I don't want it to cost me an arm and a leg. Lithium would be nice but not essential. Ideally don't want to spend over €100. Any genuine advice would be great as a lot of the online reviews are all over the shop and often quite conflicting.

everyone is gonna say deal extreme and there great if your handy with a soldering iron. If on the other hand you like to buy something and just use it, you'll want to up your budget a bit. If you want a serious night riding light and want to have it for a few years before you have to replace it and have spares readily available. Id recommend the Hope Vision 2. Yeah its twice your budget but its gonna be money well spent.

good thing to do would be to read/search through all the hundreds of past posts both here and on madmtb.com/forum and see what people have been saying about all the different options
I've used a combo of the cheap DealExtreme lights and a 'proper' Light&Motion Arc, the earlier DealExtreme lights had woeful quality, though the more recent offerings appear to have been significantly improved.
Buying a reliable brand name light from your local bike shop - like the one Al suggested below - is worth the extra money though for the peace of mind it'll give you.
Returning/replacing a DealExtreme is a very long 'slow boat to China' process

For the OP, if you genuinely have a budget of €100 then you have no choice but the Deal Extreme light - it is the only light available on the market that will give you enough light to ride off road at that pricepoint! You may be lucky and have no issues in which case you won't understand why anyone would pay for anything else! But a fair percentage of them have problems including a large number of battery "spontaneous combustions" in the US last year! For peace of mind I personally would wait and buy something else!!

Don has lots of knowledge about tyres tis true, but who is Don, like really why listen to him he has many strange rants on this forum, so I for one never take him seriously.

I was kinda hoping to hear that there's some serious bang for your buck to be had for a lot less, but I guess the experts have spoken. All the other threads on lights seem to just go round and round.
