problem removing oil seals from Reba SL

I am attempting to overhaul a 2006 Reba SL (first time trying anything like this) and I cannot seem to remove the oil seals from within the lower legs. I managed to get out the dust seals and foam rings but the oil seals seemed jammed in. Is there a method of doing this? I have read through rock shox docs which suggests using a flat head screw driver, which doesn't work for me.

Also, can the new seals be installed without the use special tool?

Heat the lower legs around the oil seals using a heat gun.. then pry them out with a large flat bladed screwdriver or similar tool.. wrap a rag or something soft around the shaft of the screwdriver to protect the lowers..
