Want to hardcore the remains of a lawn in the front garden, for parking van on. What materials to use, where to buy or steal them, need to dig off grass and soil first or just put hardcore down, are slabs worthwhile or not etc etc.

While Im not the best MTBer in the world I am an engineer, the main thing is budget. How much are you willing to spend vs how good a job you want to do.
In a perfect you would dig down, line the ground with a geotextille fabric like Terram, then round stone, blinded with 804 whacked
Thats a job if done right will last as long as you will.
Road stone would be a place to purchases all the materials or most builders merchants will sell and deliver small loads of stone etc.
Slabs are a waste of time for the most part, you could just pour a concrete slab either which would be affordable enough.

Eamonn, had a previous experience with one of those tarmac firms, not going there again.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Not really after a beautiful job here, just cheap and practical. Fire road type finish would do fine, would like to get it tough enough that the van doesn't sink in making big hollows.

Kill the grass with Roundup then dig down a good bit and compact down a hardcore and chuck some gravel on the top for a decent looking finish.
Just go redneck and park on the jazaz grass Basil...save the dollors for cans...

Barely got out of the grass the last time with the wheelspins and stuff. As everyone knows, I'm a rubbish driver. It's up a hill and the clutch control thing is kinda beyond me, what with driving the automatic Rover these days and all. So it'll have to be hardcore.

I did exactly this last year on my driveway to park a camper van. Works a treat and looks good. Make sure you compact it well. Hire a decent wacker for about â¬30 for a day.
