re-threading cranks

I somehow managed to strip the threads on my xt cranks a while back and was wondering is there a way of re-threading them and has anyone got it done before?

There the 08 ones so should be under warrantee but don't fancy having to send them away to shimano so thought i try get them fixed.

I was told you can get an insert put into the hole with threads on it, anyone know where to get this done?

any help or advice would be appreciated, cheers.

ohh and before you ask, yes i probably did cross thread the pedals but the threads in the xts are like butter, its happened to me before when i got hit by a car so it's not all my fault. they should be stronger than tarmac like....

drop them out to the bike rack we have the wear with all do fix them. Its not always possible with the good shimano cranks because there hollow

Its called a helicoil. Aluweld used to do them try them, if they dont they can definitely point you in the right direction. 01 8681100 they are on Blackhorse avenue.

thanks lads, I'll see if you can do them first al, i probably won't be able to get out to the shop before the weekend though, will you be in cloon on sunday? yep ill be there a standard helicoil won't work as pedals aren't a normal metric tread also the left one is reverse tread. There are helicoils available through the bike trade for pedals problem is with any off the hollowtech cranks is that there may not be enough alloy there to tap them and insert the helicoil. Where the pedals screw in is like a tube welded into the crank rather than a hole thats been drilled in a solid block of alloy like on some other cranks.
