Don, does this not cause the post to slip inadvertently when you don't wish it to happen. Is there not something missing from the pack?
If you weld on a schraeder valve to your seat tube, grease post and insert as explained and then presurise your seat tube I reckon you might just be on to something. Make sure the inside of the seat tube is particularly clean first to avoid unnessary stiction.
